My daughter & her two girls are going to be passing through there in a couple weeks & she wanted to stop & see it. I know this could be a dumb question but is it open all year long or does it close for the season. (Snow, Off Season, Ect) Thanks Gerald

Never closed I'm aware of. Once we arrived there in the RV very late at night far after official closing but parking lot and walk up to viewing area was still open. WE were the ONLY people there a bit weird n scary. HOWEVER there were switches we turned on and the lights up on the faces came on and we heard the recorded narration VERY NICE PRIVATE SHOW but I bet that cant be done any longer grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

John T Live in the RV dry camped at Lake Dorr in the Ocala Natl Forest very beautiful n peaceful n cheap with the Senior Pass lol Headed from here to Juniper Springs then Salt Springs then White Springs Florida to the Stephen Foster Park Antique Tractor Show where I exhibit.

We were there in 2008, Got it off my bucket list. It was neat.---Tee

We went out to the Worlds Fair in Seattle WA in 1961. On the way home I saw a sign saying we were 30 miles away from Mt Rushmore. Dad would not stop,I new right then that I was not going to be like that when I grew up. If I'm driving and you want to stop, just tell me before the exit, not after.

Went there in the early '90's, in our 200K '76 Ford pickup towing a trailer. Those arch-ways that Big Tee showed make a pretty dramatic entrance. As we're walking back to the rig in the parking lot, I see a little rivulet of anti-freeze flowing into the catch basin, said to myself "Sucks to be that guy". You can guess the rest. I had anticipated trouble with our old truck, so had brought a set of tools with me. Next morning, I was up at 0 dark thirty to put on a new water pump. I had parked so the raised hood would provide shade, finished just as the sun cleared the hood. Also did a new alternator in West Yellowstone. And our pet rat, Floyd, passed on at about Idaho Falls on the way home. Put that little sucker in a plastic bag in the freezer of the rig, buried him with full rodent honors when we got home.

While in the neighborhood check out the crazy horse mountain. Kids and I thought it was much better than rushmore

I suggest going to see Mt Rushmore first, then go see Crazy Horse. I say that because Crazy Horse is a lot larger! Take time to read how much time and labor is involved in each one.

The family was to both in the mid 70s. Wife and I went back in 2016. Really a big change, liked it better the old way same with Corn Palace in Mitchell. Rural scenery was pretty though.

I was there 26th of October about 4 years ago. It had came a 21 inch snow the day before but they had the roads open. If you do go to Crazy Horse come back around and come up to Rushmore from the front. You can com thru a small back-road and come up the back side of Rushmore but must more impressive coming in from the front side. They are both something one should do once in his life for sure.

Wind Cave and Jewel Cave are both close as well. My sister in law worked at Wind Cave. Both have several tours that are fun and informative.
I took my kids to Jewel Cave about 1996. They had spelunking tours, but you had to be able to crawl under a bench they had out front. Kids made it through just fine as did the wife. When I tried, well, I crawled off with their seat. Rangers were not happy. They wouldn't let me go, claimed they didn't need the cave expanded.
