1959 IH heat exhanger spring

No picture here but, if spring is new or in good condition, install it so it holds the counter weight straight up and down with what will be about a 1/4 to 1/3 turn of tension on spring. Then push counter weight forward and spring should return it briskly to vertical position. When engine is fully warmed up and under load counter weight will lay down forward. Heat riser, not heat exchanger but know what you are talking about.

You mean like on a 460 manifold. We had one many years ago. Can remember there is not that much tension, just enough to hold it one way or the other. Kinda wears a slot in the manifold.
