Just got done overhauling a trans in a JD 630. Went to back it out of the shop and it started to run poorly then started to backfire and quit before I could get it out of the shop. First suspect was fuel but it was smoking black during this time. Changed the coil same thing. By passed the resistor. Same thing. Put a new set of points and condenser which looked nearly new. Fired right up and ran normal.

Sounds about right, put three in an 1800 oliver in less than two weeks, finally got a good one I guess, cause its still going.

Electrons condense differently in that part of the world, don't ya know?

For a 100 bucks you can solve that problem, install a pertronix kit thats available from the fine folks who sponsor this form.

You guys gotta learn to quit replacing a working (and hopefully US made) condenser every time you do a tuneup.

Good old RELIABLE condensers very seldom fail, and replacing a good one with today's JUNK wastes money and makes you angry!
