OT--- Computer browser?

I have IE windows 7 on this computer and Chrome on my laptop.
Not really happy with either. Seems like it changes something every day. When it updates, I always have a problem.
I don't know a lot about computers, don't even know if [i:49a9318aa3]browser [/i:49a9318aa3]is the correct word, so I am open for advice on what browser, other then IE, would be better.

This is really a personal preference thing and it's shown to me by the folks who use the computers in our shop. Everyone has their own favorite and we see Firefox, Mozilla, Chrome, Edge, Bing, and Explorer. I like the simplicity of Explorer coupled with Google - not Chrome as my search engine.

It sounds like you might want to disable automatic updates so you can choose what and when the updates come in. That way you can be ready for any changes they may make that you don't like. In that case you can do a system restore and dump them and start over.

I have seen lots of complaints about Chrome but I have no personal experience on it.

If you think windows 7 with IE is bad, get a brand new $700.00 Dell laptop with windows 10 on it. The absolute worst computer experience I have ever had even though its got the fastest processor, and most memory of anything we have at the shop.

I feel better now......

Not sure if this is the right answer. I got the 'Free Win 10' update, didn't really want it, fought it, anyhoo, I like it now. I'm an 'Olde Pharte' and fingered it my ownself. THEN, my 'Puter'(laptop) took a big doo-doo. Next step was to my local IT guys, they set me up with a used laptop (same brand as before), swapped all the files and such-back in biz for $200. Still here (whether you like it or not). b

I prefer Firefox, but not after version 56.0. Also, I use the 32-bit version as I have troubles with the 64-bit. Works GREAT on my Win 7 puters.

Also, I don't let ANYTHING auto-update on my machines....other than Norton, which works totally in the background. Windows requires too many re-starts, almost always at inconvenient times, so I'll manually update every week or two at MY convenience.

Used to let Firefox auto-update, but when their "new & improved" version came out, the style seems to emulate some of the other browsers that I don't like -- part of the reason I stayed with Firefox to begin with. 56.0 is the newest version of Firefox before it went bad. You can find it (and other versions) here:
https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/56.0/

If you like streaming videos, stay away from the EME-free builds. I don't think it stops "all" streaming, but it'll stop anything DRM-related.

I have a laptop in the garage for use as a radio. A couple of weeks ago it stopped all the radio station sound but I still had the sound from You Tube C+W. Got a fella about half my age to look at it and he said he had never seen one do that. It hadn't been updated in about 5 years. 500 and some updates behind. It had Linux operating system on it and he just updated to the Newest Linux version, and it works better than ever. I bought it off Ebay from a company in Florida that refurbishes them about $130.

Been using Firefox for a couple years, it seems to do all I need it to do, which isn't much.

I added Firefox ad blocker recently. Made a world of difference, stopped a lot of annoying ads, and freezing up.

WIN 7 on this computer, I Explorer came with system. Computer guy said MS is not updating IE on WIN 7 systems since it no longer supported by MS. Claimed risk of virus is high on unsupported software. Switched to Chrome and it works great, no glitches. I have almost nil computer knowledge.
