Obsolete truck rim another idea maybe

So years ago my dad blew the ring and pinion on this 1965 Ford 1ton. We found a rear end to use to fix the problem and since a that time the brakes worked I just took the ring and pinion out of the replacement rear end. Plus the replacement is 8 bolt type wheel. I got the thinking that maybe I could pull one of the hubs off that rear end and install it on one side and use 8 hole rims on one side and 6 hole on the other side so as to be able to run with duals till I get replacement 6 hole rims. So sine the ring and pinion worked how likely is it that the hub will work??
Thank

Yikes.

Wouldn't you be far ahead to swap the whole rear end?

Or if possible, both hubs?

I can't imagine trying to mate up a 8 lug on one side and a 6 lug on the other and safely drive down the road.... yikes.

How much research have you put into your search for other rims?

What size of 6 hole do you need ? I have 4 16" They came off a trailer that had 26 on one side and 17.5 on the other I found some 17's that matched better and ended up selling the trailer so I have these 16's left

Tires are the same size be they 6 lug rims or 8 lug rims only difference would be the number of lug bolts. I have a good number of the 8 lug rims around the place but nothing to put them on. Plus the only place this truck drives is around my farm and on the driveway hauling gravel for the driveway

I will sell all 4 they have the big lug hole I'll have to look to see if tubeless or not I forgot about looking at your post again

Not sure what the lug pattern is. There Ford 6 hole dully type rims and have big lug bolt holes as in about the size of a mans thumb. If you look close they are also set up so they have to be lined up just right or they do not bolt up correctly and have an index hole for a line up pin

I forgot to ad that the rear end I took the ring and pinion out of has been laying around in my iron pile for more then 20 years and to swap out the whole rear end would take a whole lot more work and in the long run I want to keep the 6 lug rims on it but just to =get by till I get some rims so I can haul more gravel per load

Do the one to 8 lug, to get by, Then when it is warmer (and with tongue in cheek) when nothing else to do, change out the other to use 8 bolt on both. Jim

Look up the bearing numbers for the hubs, if they match and the brake drum size and offset match then bolt both sides on with your 8 bolt rims and don't look back.

Went out and look the 8 bolt rear end over and well it only has one hub. Plus the nut to remove the hub is bigger then 2-1/4 and the 2-1/2 socket I have will not fit so have to figure out how to remove then nut. I did soak it down good with ATF so that should help

Rich, just use a good chisel and hammer. That nut will come loose and then you can either turn it off with your fingers or a pair of Channel locks. Sounds as if you might have an Eaton rearend in that truck.

I just looked in the dark. Looks like I have 2 or 3 6 lug split rims. They have old tires on them. Pay shipping from Eugene Oregon and they're yours. Let me know if you want pics.

Already tried the hammer and chisel trick and so far that is a no go but it has sat with out the ring and pinion and axles out for a decade or more so pretty rusty.

You talking with or with out the tire still on?? Either way I bet shipping would be pretty high and right now there is no $$ in the budget to spent much due to the cost of fixing my driveway so trying to save up a few $$ so I can fix this

Yea. I figured shipping would be 150-200 through Fastenal. Which is probably to much. Tires are on them still. One is missing the lock ring. I will try to take a picture later. Maybe just keep it in mind if you don't come up with a better solution.

There is one guy on here that says he has some and he has plans to be in Missouri in the future and he has even been to my place before. Ya shipping now days is a killer. I still remember send a guy a head for a Leroy engine. I sold it as is but it did look good charged him $50 plus shipping and the shipping cost more then the head did. One god thing was he had a machine shop look the head over and they said it was a fresh rebuilt head so he lucked out big time

Here is what I have. Keep it in mind.

Cut the center out beyond the lug holes from a rim missing parts or damaged beyond the cut.
Then weld that into your existing rim with the buggered holes?

Shipping on that could be done via mail.

You could do the same if you wanted to use your 8 lug rims on the truck.
Just cut the centers out of six split rims with the six lugs at the rim.
Do same on 8 lug rims swap centers out.

Another thought for your truck.

Take off the front wheels if the rims are in good shape and pair them up with the two you have on the back.

Put the old chewed up rims on the front, with just a single rim to attach on the front a plate or some washers might get you by.

It would if the rims had an center index like most cars and trucks have now days but the lug bolts are the index points so a sloppy front mount could cause problem but I have though about trying it just to see. I might even get lucky and be able to use thin washers so as to help index them better but I will leave to mount good tires on them first which I have laying around. I know a place that gives tires away just so they do not have to pay deposal fees and I have good set of 235/70R-16s
