Strangest Fire I've ever seen....

Here in QuartZsite, AZ and had collected some scrub brush and cardboard to try for a campfire. Got it all together and lit it. That was the dullest campfire I have ever been around!

There was zero popping and crackling, it just burned a orange flame and then burned down to a few red coals in a few minutes.

What the heck??? Ya gotta have a crackling campfire to enjoy it!

If you like crackling and popping you need to try some well-seasoned osage orange (aka "hedge"), preferably with a few twisted knots. It's just about like unending firecrackers going off in your fire!
 
The popping and cracking is usually moisture escaping as steam. Your burning dead dry wood out there.
 
What were you doing at Quartzsite Az? We have been there a few times to the rock, and mineral show. I dislike rocks, the wife buys rocks to bring home. Just about every flat surface in our house has a rock of some kind. Some are kind of pretty I will admit. Stan
 
There is a legend in our community where a man had his wife's coffin made of sassafrass wood so that when she went to Hell she would be poppi'n and snappi'n
 
Think there is an app for crackling fire sound. Check your
google store. Build a fire and listen to your phone.
 
Dang fire didn't last 10 minutes, from flames to burnt out embers. You'd have to have a pick-up load of the scrub to cook a mess of hamburgers.
