Pto generator question

I?ve got a Winpower PTO generator (I think a 25/45). I?ve probably put 45 hours on it in the last couple months working on a new catch pen and continuous fencing.

Is there any maintenance to them? I?ve checked the gearbox oil and greased u-joints but that?s it. All it does is welding power, but it?s been used a good bit lately so I?ve been wondering. I think I paid $200 for it at an auction years ago, so it doesn?t owe me anything. I couldn?t do without it, though.

You did a lot better than me. I paid several times that for a 25/15. No wheels, no PTO. All I've done is pull the back covers off and cleaned out any cobwebs and such. Running it, and keeping it in where it's dry are what I think are important.

PTO generators are basically just electric motors that make electricity rather than use it, so usage and storage conditions will be basically the same.

As far as maintenance, anything else that's a part of the unit (belts, gearbox, PTO shaft, etc.) should be checked periodically and any issues addressed.

Remember how this is basically an electric motor? Is best if you store this with the generator covered, but where it has adequate ventilation to prevent moisture buildup. Keep the dust and cobwebs off. Try to keep bugs out, etc. Following these guidelines, your unit should last you MANY good years of service.

Just keep the shaft and gear box lubed are the main things. I use compressed air and blow the windings out each year. It does not get used hardly ever anymore. The stand bye generator easily runs everything so we rarely need the PTO generator anymore. It is a 50 Kw generator and it will pull the heck out of a JD 4020 when loaded. It is 1000 rpm PTO too.
