Neighbours garbage...

Saw something orange back in the fields when checking drains today. Thought it was just some garbage blown in from next door. Went to retrieve it and found it was a weather balloon with instrumentation from the US Weather service. Took it home, found the recording module and return packaging. Instruction said to return it in the enclosed bag, postage paid in the US only. If found in Canada dispose of in a toxic material waste site due to lithium batteries. Guess it really was the neighbours garbage blown in!

I remember when we were in about the second grade,a whole balloon lost enough lift that it came down in the field of a shirt tail cousin who was in my class. They tried to get it in the garage but it snagged and burst. Before they sent the stuff back in,his mother brought it and what was left of the balloon in and showed it to the class.

Well now, if the highly technical equipment used in making accurate predictions isn't worth the small extra postage, guess it makes sense now why they're still "guessing" at forecasts. *lol*

No kidding.
On top of that, they want YOU to pay for proper disposal in a hazmat approved landfill.

Keep it out of view of your voting information. A Russian hacker might have it hijacked and will be voting for you in your next election.

I found one when I was a kid. Someone else found one at the farm years later. Doesn't look anything like the one I found.

Back in the late 60s we found one and it was about the size of a shoebox for a pair of dress shoes. There was no mail request on it so I took it to school.

I check Weather.gov early every day then listen to the radio and watch TV just to see if the local stations(who must get all their articulate and dramatic weather info from NOAA, because they have no real weather stations of their own), can repeat the NOAA forecasts accurately.

Great way to make a living...repeating on TV what anyone can get for free directly from the horses mouth.

We are getting a lot of "The Weather Underground" personal weather stations around my place. Nice as you get pin point info on weather that affects you directly. I have noticed that Intellicast can pinpoint to the hour, when a weather system is going to hit you and estimates how much of what you are going to get. I have a hunch that a lot of that is driven by data links from these local reporting stations going to a centralized site where the information is sorted and determines what forecast is available from Intellicast.

If you don't get them, go to Intellicast and put in your zip code. Once on your zip code go to the 10 day forecast. When that screen pops up WU stations are at the top of the posting, above the forecast. Click on the station and you get the location and all the data and references to daily activities, both current and past. Really neat.
