Old Binder Picture

Another vintage harvest picture. My grandparents in 1941 with 4 horses hitched up to the binder cutting oats (I think). Grandma wrote on the
back of this one, "the last stook". Binder was likely a Massey Harris or International as they seemed to be the most popular around here.

Wonder if he is doing most of the qpulling or if he is just drifting along going through the motions. He he.

Here is another binder picture, top of the hill at the ranch. Very steep country. This is my grandfather Henry Arnold, my mother Sara is riding one of the horses. About 1922.

I immediately noticed the "matched horse faces" how cool is that. Yes the one on the left definitely looks taller. gobble
 
Looks like the horses are muzzled, to keep from eating the oats? That sure would be torture for the horses, smelling the oats all day long.

I don't know but my best guess is those nose guards on the horses are to keep flies off.
