I have a pre 70 806 wheatland, use every weekend. I have changed oil, bought oil filters from ch dealer, filters come with cartrige and rubber seal, pulled filters out and was no rubber seal in top ring. New filter seals to not fit or slip into top groove for canister (to big), tried without rubber but back canister leaks. Any one have suggestions on what to use for seal ?

Dig a little harder. I'm pretty sure that there is a gasket in there, but it is petrified from being in there so long. This is a common issue with this filter design. Once that gasket has been removed a new one will fit.

I had a problem with getting the old gasket out also. Used a mirror and a dental pick to pull old seal out. It was very hard and broke in many pieces--just make sure you get it ALL out.
