I was rebuilding a 272 Leyland that was given to me. It ran for about 10 min and then slung a rod. Does any know the torque for the rod cap bolts and the head bolts? Also looking for a used piston and rod. English parts are harder to find than Farmall.
 
A&I will have parts. Previous model of engine had 60ft lbs torque on rod caps, don't have a book handy for the 4/98 engine right now. I'll find out for you, it might take me a day or so...
 
I use to work at a place that sold leylands . the phone number is 507 534 2004 ask jack for the specs . he will also have used parts. i dont remember the torque specs . but the valve lash is .013. to set the valves when the the front valve by the fan is down set the valve closets to the fly wheel. then when the second valve from the flywheel is down set the second valve from the flywheel continue like this so when the last valve by the flywheel is down you set the valve closets to the fan. setting the valves this way it will run the best . this is way jack taught me he has been working on leylands since the 70s
 
I have a link to a french website for a manual that is in english, book says 60ft/lbs. but a discussion on a Brit forum says it should 75 ft/lbs. What I gather is that 60 is for bolts with locking tabs and 75 is after the tabs where removed in later years as they made updates.

Hi Rick I do But it's still in my JCB 3D3, so not really planning on it going anywhere at the moment. Unless something major blows up or I find
another newer European spec machine with 4wd for the right money someplace the day I have the cash L.O.L . Hows your JCB going I think you had said
about rebuilding yours as it was tired ?.
