I've been getting calls about equipment for sale by
the honest poeple..when I look for the ad it's
gone..I've never owned the things that are
supposedly for sale..is there a quick solution to
this?..Thanks in advance..

Tell them no sale and hang up. I have been getting calls for a combine that I have never owned. For the last year. Got tired of trying to explain there is no such machine. Some get mad and cuss me out for running the add. I Gave up explaining things.

I sold a set of r-4 tires off my Kubota 8 years ago on CL and deleted the ad, I still get calls about them....

I have started "screening" my calls. If I don't know the number, please leave a message. If it is someone that actually wants to talk with me, they will leave a message. If no message, the call was not important to them so why should I scramble to pick up the phone? I may fall and get hurt seriously so I am not taking a chance.

got a scam text from southern ca. about atv tracks I have for sale kept wanting to know price the price is in the ad. so I played along texted him that they were free today only if he could make the 1200 mi trip by 5pm today he still wanted me to tell him a number which I never did, there must be something this losers can do if you text a number back to them I also told him karma was a b-tch and his life style would catch up with him

We had a neighbor who wanted people to pay money for their wining lottery. It turned out the she was hacked, her account was sending emails from her Facebook. Nothing but a scam.. Watch your credit cards and accounts.

They send you a check to cover the tracks and shipping. They then ask you to pay the shipper. He wants it sent western Union. After you pay, you find out the check they gave was a forgery. it is usually drawn on a know bank account for a bigger company and they catch it several weeks or a month later and your account gets docked. The guy you wire the money to is in Nigeria or some place like that.
They also like to play that on folks renting rooms.
You will get a reply from "George " who is relocating to your area to work at the hospital. Then "George " has a family emergency, so he is flying to France while his dad is shipping the car to your location.
Seen it many times. The Postal inspectors can't touch them since they are doing it from over seas.

Someone texted me today from an out of state number. Asked if my ranch (what ranch? I got 3 acres) was still available for his mare to board. Wanted my email so he could send more info about horse. What ever. Didn't bother answering

I got an email today from Microsoft, wanting my email address to complete a Microsoft up date. Didn't know I was up dating it.

When they do that they're looking for more: Phone number. Address. Social Security number.

You can't stop people from putting your number in a Craigslist ad or any ad for that matter. It's always been this way. Anyone could take out an ad in a newspaper and put your phone number in it as a "prank" or "revenge." The difference now is people are starting to figure out that it's possible and easy to do, so it's happening more often.

There is always the chance that someone made a mistake and put the wrong number in their ad. When you figure out how to stop people from making mistakes, let me know what the secret is.

Also not everyone is a scammer. Some are just stupid. Like that guy who was asking about the tracks. Probably too stupid to see the price in the ad. Scammers don't waste time like that, they just flat out offer to send you a cashier's check and their delivery service will come pick the item up.
