To keep this tractor related I work on tractors all the time. I eat and sleep tractors you could say. Well to keep a long story short I was have mild chest pains went to ER all the tests flunked most of them. Did a stress test it showed sighns of a heart attack. Had a angygram I'm 100 percent blocked on one artery and they could not open it to put in a stent so I'm in the hospital. Tommorow morning I'm having a bypass. What should I expect? How long before I can go back to working on tractors? Oh and I'm only 41 years old that freaks all the nurses out.

My wife had quadruple bypass when she was 63. She went from not knowing she had a problem to the OR in less than 12 hours. The operation took 3 hours. She was in the ICU for a day or two and came home after about 5 days.

She took her 6 weeks of family medical leave and went back to work. With being off 6 weeks anyway, I'm not sure how soon she could have actually gone back to work.

Good luck!

i had a widowmaker about 6 years ago. i walked in to the emergency room with 100 percent blockage. i thought i had food poisoning. they put a stent in. they get you up pretty quick after surgery. definitely take the cardio therapy class. kind of like going to the gym, but with waaayyy pretty nurses!!!!

I had 4 bypasses in 03 when i was 55. Life is good now at 69. You will be up the next day and go home in 4 or 5 days after the surgery. They wouldn't let me drive for a month but I cheated and drove to town for my morning coffee after 2 weeks. I live in a very rural area in SD. The doc didn't want an airbag go off and spoil his handiwork

My Son had Double bypass last winter. Was in the hospital for three full days and released on the morning of the fourth day. Less than a week later he was shoveling snow of his car which I had buried down by the barn because he wasn't supposed to be driving for six weeks. Couldn't believe what I was seeing. He's 45 and doing good. Good luck to you.

Hello mtractor,

The first time they let you walk, you will feel like a lead sled.. Home in four days of so. Few weeks of recuperating time, then go and chop wood!

Guido.

I had my first chest pains in jan 04. A widow maker. They did a single bypass. 35 years old. Second heart problem march 16. Put in 2 stents. After bypass I was walking 8 hours after waking up. You will only sneeze 1 time, you will make sure of that

Wife had bypass, valve repair and a pacemaker at 39. More stents, new pacemaker and another bypass and going still at 61

Had a heart attack May ?15 Widow Maker plugged up. One stent later I went home 2 days later. Listen to your doctor, no one else about your recovery. Rehab was good for me, don?t be a tuff guy pay attention.

I have one of them long scars on my chest-9 years and 8 days ago my Son and I were taking tractor tires off of rusty rims in the shop and I had to sit down-Son says-are you alright? Said-Don't know-just have to catch my breath-he went to the house and told his Mother that something's wrong with Dad-She came out and they got me to a chair and the Wife said-YOU HAVE TWO CHIOCES-She was going to call an ambulance or she and son were going to put me in the pick-up. Well we had $2500 deductible and I knew there was nothing wrong so we took the pick-up and went to the hospital-next morning I was in the operating room- scared $hitle$$-4 bypass-In for 5 days-did the therapy stuff-told to take it easy-didn't listen-neighbors wanted to plant my crops for me-said "NO"-thought I was a tuff guy-the therapist heard something clicking in my chest when they listened to my heat during exercise-broke some of the stainless steel wires that held my breastbone together-waited until between Christmas and New Years and went back in before I had to pay another deductible and they rewired me-a lot more careful now-I am very careful when I pull on a big wrench.....So good luck and do what you are told and don't be a bull headed SOB like me and GOOD LUCK!!! They say they are good for ten years-so I have 358 days left!---TEE----Sorry I was so long winded!!!!!

Had five bypass in 07 and still going strong at 81. Had to get a pacemaker in 15 because of A fib. Now I'm not to do my favorite exercise with the chain saw. It's not all bad. The nurse practitioner that I see every six months isn't too bad looking. Kind of look forward to have that pacemaker checked every six months.

Don't be too nervous about the surgery. With the modern pain meds you shouldn't have much pain. As far as I can tell it is better than the alternative. Bust of luck.

Hope everything goes really well for you and you get great results!

After my dad had a heart attack in his early 50's, he had 3 bypasses done. He said he felt about 15 years younger. He lived well into his 80's.
