Looks like the fault of the highly paid PHD packaging engineer to me. Maybe Steiners can collect on a claim against the carrier.

(quoted from post at 19:54:38 02/25/18) I thought they had 2 piece manifold or is that just the LPs. I know diesels are because have 2 of them.
this one is a gas tractor shaun, with the one piece, your correct on the diesel and lp having 2 piece.

I can almost hear their response from here, "Never had that happen before!! Are you sure you didn't drop it"? gobble

(quoted from post at 19:55:19 02/25/18) That sucks, someone was probably playing
kickball with your manifold on its way
there
I believe your right RBoots, and that's one of the reasons I got started on this project 3 months before I really need it. murphys law you know  I think that S.O.B. lives at my place! hopefully won't be to big of a hassle, will call stiener tomorrow am.

Looks like a fairly easy repair. Maybe they will send you a refund, and let you keep the manifold. I can't imagine someone just putting it in a card board box, and thinking it will be fine. Stan

I can ceartainly understand being upset about that.

Years ago I bought a manifold for my Farmall H on eBay that
the seller advertised as broke in just that same way. I got it for
a deep discount. I just mounted the carb with the bolt hooked
over the remains of the broken ear. Worked fine for years and
years, until I sold the tractor.

oh i'm sure that will be coming tom, problem is it was shipped in a larger box with 2 other continental manifolds, no sign of shipping damage on the big box, just the hole you see in the box this manifold was in.

me either stan, the funny part was this manifold was in a bigger box with 2 continental manifolds that where sitting in poured foam, and no sign of damage on the big box??

hopefully it doesn't come to that, but worst comes to worst will try and have it repaired.

Was it loose in the box with no packing? I've bought manifolds from them before, and they always have a big thick foam pad molded around them before they're put in the box.

PJH. this came in a big box with 2 other continental manifolds sitting in poured foam, this box was standing beside those 2 just like you see it with the hole in it?? no sign of damage on the big shipping box??

carvel,
I wouldn't anticipate any problem with Steiner on that. Your picture tells it all. Obviously poor packaging for something that heavy. I think their shipping department needs your picture.
Good luck with it
Dennis

(quoted from post at 20:43:17 02/25/18) if the carrier doesn't package the item they are not responsible for damage during
shipping.
Probably was broke long before they shipped it from India or China.

was it insured, check to see. I was told once the USPS has insurance on items with no charge up to a certain amount.

I don't know bumblebee, I have a ups account and will give them a call tomorrow.

(quoted from post at 21:15:46 02/25/18) Must have been on a USPS truck at one point
just dawned on me USPS us postal service! I think it was picked up at stieners by ups united parcel, and shipped via them? but i'm not a 100% sure.

I'd think Steiner's will make it good. With those all they'd have to do is make a thin steel plate to bolt across the opening and it'd make it about impossible to break the ears off.

I?ve had very good luck with Steiner tractor I bought
a tach cable from them and it broke about a year
later and they sent me a brand new one no
questions asked and I did not even have to return
the old one turns out it was my fault it broke as I
never greased the cable upon installation .

WRONG! virtually nothing is packed by carriers. Household movers will try to deny a claim on goods that they don't pack, but household moving goods is a tiny fraction of what is being carried every day.

Call Stiener as soon as you can. You have only 15 days to report to them. Every thing I got from them came UPS.

The last three tractor parts I ordered were damaged. I talked to a sales guy, he was horribly frustrated as he had no recourse to get the shipping department to do a better job. That and the rough handling by shippers makes for a frustrating situation.
