Got a new toy at an auction today

Got this allis Chalmers for 400 today at an auction runs good we only had it running for a minute but sounded good it's hand start no electric on it. I had a couple questions as I've never been around one before I think it's a B by the number I found in front of the gear shift. Is Napa 1101 the right oil filter that's what it has now and how much does it hold? It has water in the oil but I'm pretty sure it's rain water and condensation. Is there anything else I should know? Thank you!

Should be a 1939, and yes it is a B. Good little tractors, and for $400 for a running one with a mower, can?t go wrong. It even has rear wheel weights. $100 just in those, $300 for the mower, and the tractor is now free :)

It should hold 4 or 5 qts. The filter is right. If in doubt ask your local NAPA to look it up when you buy oil, filter and other parts. Those 'little' Bs are great tractors, pretty snappy.Treat as any other old tractor. Buy a book(owner's and service) ASAP.Good buy!

I think you will like mowing with that this summer. I wonder what the story behind the steering wheel and shaft is? Otherwise looks like a pretty miserable day by the looks of the mud wherever you are.

nick167 that was a steal not a buy  was every one else at the auction sleeping or what? where was the auction nick, that looks like it's been raining for quite a while. makes for a cold miserable day but well worth it when you can score a nice little tractor like that one.

Thanks everyone! The auction was in Mt.Gilead Ohio they have a consignment auction at the fair grounds there every February. I'm not sure what the story is behind the steering wheel but I think I'll be looking a for an original soon lol

When you change the filter, Make sure there is dowel pin, pointed on the bottom, in the new one. You might have to reuse the one from the old filter. Looks like you got a good deal on that one.

Nice tractor, good price. I have no problem with steering wheel except they forgot to install the turn signal stalk LOL

The Ser. # indicates it is a 1939......Apparently someone added the foot brakes from a newer tractor.....I don't think they came out 'til around 1941.
