OT If you have any interest in curling...

...I highly recommend the bronze medal match between Canada and Switzerland. A nail biter from the first to the 10th ends. Some amazing shots. Canada in the 1st and 4th ends in particular. Great strategist on both teams. The match was decided on the second to last stone of the 10th end. I doubt the gold medal match between USA and Sweden will be as entertaining.

Is the Gold Medal game going to be tonight? I'll have to tape it so I can zap through all the blah blah blah in between. I used to watch a lot of curling when I visited my maternal Grandfather on London ON back when I was a teenager. He was really into it.

I'm not sure when the gold match is. I watch almost all of it on the NBC app this year because of my work schedule. Probably is on tonight.

I heard on the radio news many times from Canada that "the great sport of curling is dying." The Canadian on the news show said they were putting on "free classes" to teach curling to young people. Cannot say watching a grown man wearing a skirt, chasing a rock, with a whisk-broom, excites me.

I keep hearing that about curling too but it is hugely popular when it makes it to the television. Doesn't get the coverage it should. I never saw anyone, man or woman, wearing a skirt nor have I seen anyone chasing a rock. Curling requires you to slide a 42 lb rock, with the assistance of sweepers to control speed and curl, down an ice sheet with a total length of 150' with great precision in an attempt to either place it in a specific spot or to remove opponents rock(s). There is also a great deal of strategy involved in placement and timing. It takes a while to realize what is going on and to learn the game, but it is worth the time. It has been compared with chess. Now don't get me wrong...I am not trying to sell you on watching it if you don't want to. I would hate to see cartoon network lose another viewer. :)

I believe the gold medal match is around 11:00 (or 11:30?) pm central time tonight, I forget which NBC channel.

Curling is a strategy sport, there is a lot of planning ahead for the stone that will be thrown 5 stones from now.

If you ain't into strategy, then it won't be for you. If you watch it enough to figure out what the strategies are, then it gets pretty interesting.

Very defensive game, like hockey or chess. You are not trying to score score score like boring basketball; you are trying to defend and plan your one good best shot of the day and make sure it counts.

(And yes, I used hockey and chess in the same class. Deal with it. :)

I got to watch about an hour and a half of that while I was at physical therapy. I don't get any sports channels so only see what the network decides to show, usually the last two slides. I found the match really interesting. I used to play in a bocce league with my dad. Scoring and strategy are very similar.

I cannot say I see the connection to "not caring about curling and therefore "liking" the cartoon network. Hey, it that makes sense to you - then I guess you can feel good about it. I will feel good likely not watching any curling and . . we don't have access to the "cartoon network." Gunsmoke yes -and I watch it every night. I prefer Festus over Chester.
