The neighbor use to run a repair shop and I?ve heard he has a gallon of por 15 but I?ve got no idea how old it might be how long does the stuff last on the shelf ?

If oxygen and humidity are sealed out, quite a while, maybe 2 years, if opened once, maybe 2 days. Experience. Jim

IF it had not been opened it would be fine. If it has been exposed to air at all I would bet it is rock hard.

A hint if your going to buy a larger amount. Do not let it set around open while you paint out of it. I usually buy gallons but pour out small amounts and reseal the can ASAP. It also helps to turn the can up side down so the material is gains the lid not the air gap.

I recently opened a can of black I last opened about 5 years ago and sealed with Saran wrap around the lid and it was fine once you got through the skin on the top. With that said, the skin on the top is HARD--I've had to use a spike and hammer to get through it before, and keep a chunk of the hardened stuff around for people who wonder how tough the paint is. A key point with POR-15 is NOT to use it out of the can--dip out what you need into another disposable container and paint from there.

It is an excellent product. I have a can that's 3 years old and still good. If you don't empty the can and want to save what's left, clean the cover and the top of the can so there is absolutely no product left. Then seal the can good. I Didn't do that once. By the time I got the can open, it hardly resembled a can anymore. I don't think you could weld the cover on any tighter.
