Just wanted to thank John T., Janicholson, and all the others who responded to my questions on the alternator thread yesterday. I will be taking this on in the next few weeks. First off, we will be polarizing and checking out the existing generator and regulator, as someone had suggested, to see if it can be made to work.
If not, then I no doubt will be converting it over to an alternator, using the information you all have supplied.

I wanted to post this thank you separately, in case you guys don't use the modern view. I made a similar post yesterday in the thread itself, but then realized that the 18th century classic view had this thing broken down into 3 or 4 separate threads. So not sure if it appeared there, or if it did, where it might have gotten buried.

So just wanted to make sure you guys saw it and knew how much your help was appreciated.

IIRC the last time they polled this topic most people were using classic. I know I do. I like the way it is so easy to respond to a particular person and hate the ordering of posts on modern. The only merit to modern that I have seen is that it will pull an old post and put it back at the top if someone finds it and responds. But even that has it's drawbacks.

Rusty ...... your post should be reworded to read as follows:

"If everyone would use the modern view, and classic was eliminated, life would be so much easier for Rusty".

I'd stay but I'd miss it.The only time I use modern is when I want keep track of who's strafing whom when a bunch of people are having hissy fits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate modern and when I have tried to us it the post that I answer seem to always answer who ever last posted not the person who did the post

I mostly use modern because it's what I'm used to, not because it's the best. There's nothing particularly wrong about either format as far as I'm concerned. I do use classic on the cell phone because modern comes through in such a small font on the phone. If I enlarge the font in modern on the phone the text doesn't fit the window so I'm scrolling back and forth to read it. It is easier to follow the conversation in classic though. I do have to remember one is top to bottom and the other is bottom to top.

I use modern, and I see it as funny that the reasons that people give for sticking with classic are the same reasons that I like modern, LOL.

Me too A.C.G. and I'm sure I wouldn't be any loss either but there are some awfully good people on here in both, I just started out using classic and that's what I use. Keith

All I know is that whenever I try and reply to a specific post the way you're "supposed" to  if I go into classic and look for it it's never in the right place anyhow! How anyone can find their way through that mess is beyond me.

Nonetheless, the original topic of this thread still stands: Thanks, guys for answering my alternator questions!

Some guys say there internet won't run modern, so they use classic. It was pointed out that half the forum would dissapear without classic, yes that
would be sad to loose some guys and their vast range of knowledge. But maybe it might take a few % of the grumpy old men off that made everybody mad in
the coffee shop.

So they can't go there and come here to do the same thing without leaving home, you have to pick their replies out not to read in a thread L.O.L. I
do find it way more annoying though that sometimes posts don't show in the way you type a message, with sentences/ paragraphs never the way it comes
up when it's posted. Just as a continuous jumbled up mess with no gaps between paragraphs and new sentences !.
Regards Robert
