re: sad....

I beg to differ. My world revolves around tractors. Everything happening in the world effects tractors and agriculture in some way !

Spook had it right on that one. Some people seem to only be here for the politics,so why bother. No sense posting anything anymore unless it's an actual picture of a tractor you're working on. Anything else gets turned political, somehow, some way, eventually.
This stuff keeps up,this whole forum is going down in flames. Not to say I'm opposed to OT posts, that's what makes the world go around and a good reason for being here, but some people's ability to flush a post right down the crapper with politics is nothing short of a super power.

As far as your post that has you posting this,I haven't read it this morning, but last I read last night, there still wasn't an ounce of sympathy for the victims and their families, just the usual rhetoric that Spook knew would happen.

believe or not I agree. my post was not political but of human concern. thing is this site has an "Off Topic" page. why don't the non tractor posters use it ? yeah yeah pot calling the kettle black.

This site has been dying a slow death. I remember it back in the early 2000's when it was in its prime.
A lot of reasons for it, but lets not get into that...

Yes and YOU started a non-tractor related thread. Off topic (tractors) threads are allowed down on tractor tales. Stir the pot else where. gobble

Posting about a shooting does become instantly political. I suspect the more people talk about the shootings, the more some people want to do it an make the news. My "human concern" is now even here on an antique tractor forum -if I choose to read I have to hear about it again? I do not pretend to speak for others -but I come to places like this to get away from mainstream news. Not to just hear it repeated again. No wonder why this forum is dying.

Note- I understand nobody is forced to come here and read anything. I am not complaining. Just stating my take and why I come here less and less.

Jeeze, we got guys posting about trucks, tools, tv shows, sports, doggies and kitties, their health, their wifes health, their family history, their SS, their Medicare, their meds, their home remedies, their cars, their education, their service time, their good and bad buys... why is it surprising that people want to discuss allt he other crap that happens? EVERYTHING is political to one degree or another. Deal with it guys.

Ag-talk has their Caf? and Kitchen table-we have Tractor talk. The subjects that are iffy to me is when people start talking about their colonoscopy, bowel movements and hemorrhoids. Can't wait for Spring!---Tee

The funny thing that all the o/t posters don?t get, or rationalize, is that this forum is an offshoot of a business that makes money selling believe it or not, tractor parts. With all the non related posts that have nothing to do with tractors or even farming, the point will come where the site owners will shut it down as it no longer serves the business. With all the postings and junk threads, it is more like Facebook than a tractor site some days. If people kept their unrelated non tractor/farm/tool posts in tales, it would make more sense, but nope, gotta stick out from others to get the attention they wish.

Plus no one is forced to read everything (or anything) posted here.If a person isn't interested in all the things you mentioned and other things like shootings, sports etc etc and don't want to be
bothered by them its real simple DON'T CLICK ON THE THREAD! Seems like many like to either torment themselves or imagine themselves to be some sort of victim by reading about something they don't
want to hear about. When someone clicks on a thread they've endorsed its existence.I guess its like Howard Stern used to say about the listeners to his radio show, Half that listened like his
show and what he had to say and the other half that listened hated what he had to say but they all listened because they wanted to hear what he had to say.

Posters only get attention when others give them attention and post replies like you and I are doing right now.If you think OT is a problem then when you reply you have become part of what you are now condemning. And many condemn posts for the attention they get from doing it,so round and round we go.Personally I say post away I'll read what I want and let the rest slide.

I don't let it bother me anymore. TT and Talers is all one, as far as I am concerned anymore. There are the brand forums for real tractor talk.
No point to pulling your shorts up too high.
Loren

I have never looked at them and don't intend to ever do it. The same with all you posting about guns, that is as far off of tractors it can be. I will never read those either. The conserne here should be for the families and thoughts of is it going to be your kids or grandkids the next victom, what are you doing to make sure it is not your family next? Or would you even care?

I like the off topic stuff. I learn a lot. I bought a Speed Queen washer and dryer because of YT. I enjoy anything tractor, truck, farm, rural life. I like to read about your chemo. I may need it some day. I wish they would re-combine Tractor Talk with Tractor Tales. I can always scroll past east doesn't interest me. I do wish folks would minimize divisive political stuff.

RE . . "When someone clicks on a thread they've endorsed its existence"

Nice hypothesis that does not work well when a title of a post does NOT indicate what the heck is about.

SAD?? Hey, if my tractor blew up I'd call it sad. Not a very descriptive title.

Well you endorsed now it by posting on it now instead of backing out and moving on,plus you read the replies instead of backing out once you realized what the original post had to say.

I don't disagree with you about the posts that start out political. I'm as guilty as anybody of participating in them, but it would be darned nice if everybody would leave the politics out of the posts that didn't start out that way.

I disagree. It is the off topics that keep this site interesting and bring in more people to discuss the tractor related portion and where to buy the products that this site as well as others have for sale.

Based on your posts yesterday, it appears you are for the off topic posts?

Very confusing.

Year's ago this site was very heavily moderated to stay on topic, and many of us, myself included, were quite on top of keeping it that way.

Then they loosened up the rules, and decided we have the different brand areas to discuss tractor stuff, we can talk in general here some. Fair enough, that worked pretty good too, made sense.

Couple people started ongoing daily general interest threads such as Jon does so well currently. Keeps people coming back here every day.

The past year I have gotten so sick of politics and loud people with narrow points of view and eternal arguments, I either leave places or speak out pretty bluntly myself, depending on my mood. Everyone has an ulterior motive, it just gets old.

Stopped at the coffee shop this morning and it was the same thing. I agreed with what the people were saying; but so tired of it. I don't even want to hear my own view talked up any more. I won't be stopping by there for a week, just tired of the endless debate and bullying we get from social media any more. And it has carried on to real conversations now.

Enough, I'm tired of it. Wore out.

You got a political point make it and move on. You start something yesterday, and you complain about off topic messages today?

Goofiness.

Paul

have to agree I like the off topic as much as the tractor.

I get to see the USA. for the most part, from the eye's of real people.

Your everyday happenings, trouble with critters, and ideas of how to fix things I would have never thought of without readying it here, has been good for me.

There is hardly a day go buy that something of interest has not been posted. Even how some of you deal with loses and medical issues gives me a different view than my own. It's as the saying goes. "not what happens to you but what you learn from it." something like that.

Reading something does not equal endorsing it. Seems you have "acknowledge" confused with "endorse."

Which ones were sad? Aren't you the guy who started a thread complaining about the superbowl parade advertising in Philly and then responded to every person that opined as to the suckyness of Philly with or without a parade?

Due to YT hosting this site, they are the first place I shop for parts. They are sometimes a little higher than another site, but if it's close at all I buy from YT because they host the forums (at first) and because of good customer service after that.

Most mornings the first thing I do is check this sight for Today's Funny. If it is late I get worried. Jon f mn, thank you for your dedication. I enjoy most OT posts. It lets me find out about the lives of other tractor guys. Some of your political stuff I pass over. Some I read and chuckle at the ability to get a point across with the Moderator stopping it. I enjoy the format. I also read Tractor Tales (OT) and Case & David Brown forums. Thank you all who post for all the help and advise over the years.
Dave

On the first page of search results you scroll down until you see Yesterdays Tractors discussion forums. It says: "An off-topic area for people who share an interest in old tractors to have a casual conversation, tractor related or not." I don't understand why we have this argument every six months.
