Look what I drug home from the auction!

2006 GMC K2500, LLY Duramax, Allison trans,
151,000 miles.

Frame is bent, and needs sheet metal.
Intercooler and radiators are okay. Engine
cranks good, but is looking oil rapidly from
a broken oil cooler line.

Should be a very nice truck when I am done
with it! Anyone want to guess the selling
price? I am pretty sure I stole it. ;)

good morning Bryce, that will keep you off the streets and out of trouble for a while, my guess is under $5000.00 What do you guesstimate the repair build will be?

Bryce I would guess around $7500.

Also what are your doing now that your out of school???? If you have posted what you doing I must have missed it or forgot it or forgot it. LOL

With taxes and titling, etc, it cost me $4053.75. The winning bid was $3750.

I know the engine alone is worth what I have into the truck. :)

So far, I am thinking I will be into it
$10,000 at the most.

Worst case scenario, it will cost me $1000
for a different frame from a local wrecking
yard in Spokane. and a lot of shop time at
home swapping everything over!!

Sheet metal will probably be another $1000
by the time I have bought used ones, and
then have them prepped and painted.

Other than that, a few broken parts here and
there, and unknowns that I am sure will pop
up!

Not a whole lot really. Installing flooring with a buddy full time, and doing as many small jobs as possible.

With Casey being at college, gives me lots of time to work work work!!

I cannot imagine paying that for one in good ready to drive condition. I know I would not.

Maybe a frame shop can straighten the frame. I had that done on a couple of jeeps and the cost was very reasonable.

That's what I hope. I figure even if I have to pay someone $1000, that still saves me all the labor of swapping everything to the new frame!

Bryce $3750. I believe that is called GRAND THEFT AUTO  I bought a car for my eldest daughter many years ago at a police auction , a ford mustang it was about a year old and a wise young fellow that had to many wobbly pops was trying to outrun the cops smacked into a light pole, abruptly ending his racing and driving career. I stripped off the front clip, took it to a frame shop had it straightened and inspected, went to the auto wreckers and picked the parts I needed from the same year mustang that was rear ended and had a new car for the daughter for under $5000.00 and a LOT of sweat equity! good luck and I hope you don't run into to many nasty surprises when you get into it. keep us posted with some progress pics. john

Leroy the price of these diesel trucks has gone up insanely, a new truck like bryces truck up here in Canada with all the options it has would be over $90,000. I had my 2005 dodge 3/4 ton cummins in at my local dodge dealer for some warranty recall work and while I was waiting I cruised around the showroom talking to a salesman, what would it cost to replace my truck with a new 2017? he told me $93,000.00. I don,t know what a new gmc 3/4 ton diesel in Washington would sell for, Bryce would know, but I would think at least $60,000. it's hard to even comprehend Leroy or get your head around the numbers they want for a work truck today

This truck actually spent its entire life in
Canada until it was converted to miles and
brought to USA in 2015.

A new truck like this would pretty quickly
be 70,000 and up.

This one is all leather, and all options.
Sun roof from factory too.

My 2001 dually I have completely rebuilt the
engine, painted it, New tires , and lots of
other little things, and I am in it about
$12,000. It has 240,000 miles, and is
probably only worth $14,000, but for the
money I am in it, it is pretty much new!

Not knocking the price you paid, but I am sure the big pipe up the back means it has been "chipped" and road hard and put away wet. Not something a 70+yro. like me would be likely to invest in. Good luck.
How is Casey making out with her previous employer???
Loren

Well, I am leery of that but what's interesting, after a little investigating of the vin, the truck was a one owner in Canada for 136,000 miles. Then it was transferred to American, and then sold in WA to the guy who wrecked it. So, it sits at 151,000 miles now, and we are hoping maybe he hasn't owned it long enough to do major damage !!

You didn't comment on Casey's feud with her former employer or do you have a new GF.
Non of my business, I know, but I think lots of us want to know.
Loren

Well, for now we are going with the let it ride plan!

I texted the boss and asked for her mailing address, said I wanted to send her a check for Casey.

The reply was that what her and Casey have going is none of my business! So, I dropped it, and Casey hasn't talked to her, nor has she tried to talk to Casey!

Very odd really, just hoping it all blows over.

It doesn't look like a very hard hit. A frame shop can do wonders with the frame. It will be like new. I used to buy and fix a lot of repairables and we did much worse. I would first take off all the damaged parts and give everything a good look over before I ordered any parts. Make a detailed estimate for yourself. You can get in too deep very quickly. We put a new, not used, frame under one and it was a huge job. Check on prices for a used front clip. It is less than the individual parts and everything is genuine OEM.

I had one of a similar year and liked it better then my 2013. Thinking of looking for a good older one. Good luck with it.

I wouldn't either Leroy . not really because of the cost but because I'd rather go to the dentist than work on anything automotive related

bryce, climb under the front end on the left side by the front differential. there is a mount on the top that is prone to cracking on a hard impact. it may need a new housing. we have done quite a few of em. the frame looks repairable. it looks to have a diamond in it on the left rail. chek the gaps between the bed and cab on both sides. one side will have a wider gap.

You've got quite the business going on there!

I wouldn't have considered it just after seeing it's lifted and has a pipe out the bed. Nobody with a truck like that will keep from horsing it, hope it turns out okay tho!

Good luck with it, keep us updated, ;)

(quoted from post at 16:48:41 02/11/18) Around here the '04's and up are hard to keep around. They DO get stolen!
where i live here in alberta there is an average of 5 of these trucks stolen every night just in the county of parkland!! mine are under lock and key behind a locked gate.

If I was looking for a truck and had the money to do it and if it was in perfect condition I would not even give $5000 for it as I despise trucks like that.

Wow really?? That's unreal. Mom was telling
me about a month ago that Spokane WA was
like the 3rd highest car theft county in the
nation?! I just struggle with that??

We live about 2 hours away in Idaho though,
so I think we are fairly safe.

Well, i have to agree, but %75 of people around here that want one of these want them to show off, not actually work. Honnestly, I think I can get another $5000 out of the truck because of the lift/wheels/stack, etc.

Well. I hate to tell you this, but a LB7 crate engine from GM is about $6000. So I guess you will be staying away from the duramax trucks.

I hope your Dad the Chevy mechanic went with you. I think you bought a nice project truck and really know what you bit off is not more than you can chew. Don't swap frames go to a body shop for frame straitening.
