I recently purchased a 500c backhoe that had sat for at least 2 years without moving.i put 2 new batteries in it,good diesel fuel and checked the fluid level.she fired right up and runs great.after i let it warm up(15min) i tried to attempt to move it.the forward/reverse lever engaged fine, and it seems to be able to shft the speed/gear select lever on the right.but it wont move at all.it doesnt ever act like its in forward or reverse.doesnt grunt, groan or anything when you are shifting it.the clutch engagement lever on the left side dash is forward and the transmission lock lever behind the batteries is in the back position.what am i missing?

Many years since I worked on a 500C. I'm thinking that it has a "tow disconnect". I'll look for a manual to check.

Make sure the inching pedal is fully up, and moves freely. It takes very little travel in the pedal to
dump the apply pressure.

That lever on the left is a transmission disconnect,,when you pull it back it will "Latch" in the disconnect position,,and it will not move,,to release it pull back on the lever to take the load off the latch and pull the button on the left of the dash to release the latch then let the lever go forward.

Found the manual
To TOW: Remove the battery cover, pull out on the tow lever latch (a round, L-shaped round stock, with a spring on it.) and move the lever forward until the latch will hold the lever in the "TOW" position. Place the speed selector in neutral to tow the unit.
To OPERATE a unit after towing, place the speed selector in "PARK: Pull out on the tow lever latch and allow the spring to move the lever rearward. If the lever does not latch in the rearward position, attempt to move the unit slowly and the spring will move the lever rearward.

Thank you for all the info.i checked both
levers, they were in the proper position for
normal operation. I changed the oil filters
and she moves forward and backwards just
fine now.i will definitely be investing in
the manuals so i can troubleshoot anymore
problems.
