led flood vs spot for fenders

I want to replace the fender lights on my 4020 with led ones, but have never used any of them. I see they offer a "trapezoidal" beam, flood, or spot. What would you use? It currently has just one light per fender. I need them mostly for working ground late evenings. I could put two on each side and control them separately if that would be better for road travel, etc.

The Trapezoidal lights will work. They should have a sharp cutoff toward the top of their reach. On aiming, they should set like a cars low beam to use the light within 150' to the front. 4 would use much less current than 2 conventional bulbs. Jim

I'm No one that has operated a bigger tractor at night. Only my little super 55 Oliver. I set it up for moving snow at night. I used two forward and two backwards head lights from a car. I have a choice of high of low beam halogens but never use the high beams. The lows spread out more and light a bigger area. When I go down the road I normally hang my left hand half way over the light on the left side of the tractor to help dim it a bit when I met a car since I have the lights aiming outward a bit more than a car would. I have been flashed from a car before. I hope this helps.

I don't know any thing about the LED lights other than when you met a car with them, it seems that there dimms are brighter than my brights.

I like 2 lights per fender(4 total) two floods aimed out,2 spot aimed straight ahead to light up the far end of the field.I really hate only being able to see 50 ft ahead. Not sure what a "trapezoidal" light is.

I've tried spots and floods in various positions on tractors and sxs utility vehicle. I found individually controlled floods fore and aft work best. The farthat forward front lights are the better I can see. Front lights on ROPS and rear fenders reflect too much to suit my eyes.

SEEMs to be 3 kinds of light patterns..

a spot, for a spot light,, its a tiny beam focused into an intense spot even at a long distance and still be a tiny spot,, totally usless for anything on a tractor.

Then there is a work light, similar to a car head light.. great for front of tractor when going down the road. and some field work. moderately long pattern, not extremely wide, but much wider that the tiny spot beam. Does not go nearly as far as a spot, but much longer than a flood.

Then there is the flood... very very wide and short. Goes about 10 feet or so, but very wide... Always great for a rear flood to show the equipment immediately behind the tractor but only goes out about 10 feet at best in a very wide pattern. This light "FLOODS" a wide area, but dimly.

I like the flood on the rear, and a driving light on the front,

And sometimes a second flood on the front to help you turn at the headlands and give you a better and wider sense of whats around you.

Does this make sense?

Also jump on U'tube. Look at all of the videos 5hat people have losted about the lamps. TONS of videos.

I use the trapezoidal lights in the inner light and floods on the outside light. If yours is like mine when you go to road lights the outside shuts off. So the trapezoidal reach further out like you want for road travel and looking across a field. The outer floods light up beside the tractor more for your close work. I also use floods on the rear of the tractor. I mount one on each fender over the single center mounted factory light.

Would these let me see out past the my snowblower if rear-facing, or are they too short for that?

Floods provide a wider beam as in flood the area with light, spot provides a narrower focused beam as in a spot of light.

Ray, I suggest you check out Tigerlights website. There are LED lights that have both high and low beam on the same light. Here is what I think you want:

TL3025
The TL3025 is a High Low Beam uses screwed connection points for installation. Uses original mount and wiring connection, Plug and Play. The low beam is a flood pattern, and the high beam adds a spot pattern. Replaces OEM Part Numbers: AR48723, AR85263, AR85264, AR93335, RE10962, RE10963, RE19081, RE19082

There is also a version of this with wire connections if you wish.

$49. If you buy them from Shoup you have them the next day. If you buy more than $200 shipping is free. Shoup p/n is 42660.

How do they do flood and spot in one bulb? It is how they grind the shape of the lens in front of the appropriate LED.

You will be amazed.

Why not add a light bar to the grill. They come in combaition spot and flood. I like to be able to see distance and close plus it reduces the glare off the sides of bonnet makeing it easier to see and reduces shadows. Ive put 2 22 inch ones on 2 tractors now and realy impressed with them for price. $50 Australian including wireing harness of ebay. 1 on 7800 made frame to bolt through front weights and other on roof of deutz it glares off bonnet and exurhst pipe. Only put it there because neep to pull grill to get to battery n air cleaner and was alread wired to top for the old spotlights

Trapezoid has a wider beam than spot but still shines out farther so you can see ahead then the flood doesn?t shine very far but lights up more area close
