[/color:1beac10cf3] Hi I have been looking for a pair of chains for
my H 12.4-38. I would like to be able to use my Tractor in the Winter Snow or in the Woods during the Summer.
I like the RUD Double Ring Pattern but having not driven my H in the Snow and frozen ground Is the RUD Double Ring Pattern the best way to go ?? before I dump close to $400 on a new set? Thank you for your reply...Ron Maine

They have their advantages and disadvantages. You do not want to use them on paved surfaces as they will chew the pavement. Good in some off road applications but depending on if the soil is not froze and clay based the rings can load with soil which can be a problem.

Thank you for your feed back. In the winter months
as you know, the ground is frozen. I was wondering about during the Spring.....will those chains Rutt the ground and leave deep
tracks??. I would probably take them off in early summer. And
put them back on in the Fall.

Where are you located? I think I still have a set that would work on your tractor nan no use for as no longer a tractor they would fit. I would have to hunt for them.

I don?t use chains very often, but I do have several sets in different sizes and they are all the duo-trac design. I like them because they give
good traction, but also don?t ride too rough either. On the rare winters when I do use them, I take them off as soon as the ice is gone in early
spring. I do know a farmer about three miles from me that leaves them on his John Deere 60 all year round. He even drives it right down our
paved county road in high gear during the summer hauling hay with it. So, my opinion is, they must hold up pretty well and not wear too fast. He
has done it for years.

I use the double ring type to plow
snow with and for going to cut wood in
the winter. They work well for me. If
you do spin them they will tear the
snot out of unfrozen dirt, your
machine will go from tractor to ditch
digger in no time flat. I would pony
up the money, double rings wear really
even because of how that are built
with the rings always moving not just
touching each other in one spot.

The chains won't create ruts in and of themselves. The weight of the tractor does that. Chains only make it worse if you spin the wheels a lot.

Why would you be running chains after the ground has thawed and the snow has stopped falling? They will wear out quickly when abused like that. Generally speaking when the ground starts thawing and the threat of snow is pretty much gone, most people remove the chains and store them until next fall.

Hi Leroy....Thats very nice of you !!I'm located in Maine zip-code 04342. Let me know if
can dig them up. Thank you for your Reply...Ron

[/color:f650b07fe9] Barnyard...I have no experience with "Chains" on my H, so from my point it pays to
Ask these questions from people who do have the Experience.
I would, as suggested take them Off in the Spring once Winter is done and Gone!!. Thank you for your Feed Back..

I figured you were a long ways away from me. I am in western Ohio so shipping would be more than cost of new unless you wanted to come this way for a vacation. I think they probably weigh a couple of hundred pounds each and I have no Idea how you could even ship them. So would have to be pickup for them.
