I bought a butane soldering gun and it did not melt the solder on the lug in
the starter. What do I have to do to replace those two brushes? Someone said
to take the starter apart. Did anyone replace those brushes with out doing
that' if so how did you do it, what wattage gun did you use?

Don't worry about melting the old solder.

Just cut the old wire off even with the connection, clean the area with carb cleaner and a small wire brush. Be sure to get all paint and grease off.

Solder the new brush wire on top of the old one.

NOT sure what "stevie boy" was "thinking" when he posted his reply, but if you don't have a good-sized "soldering copper" (or equivalent)at hand and the skills to use it you are WAY better off to exchange your "broken" starter for a re-man or new one. Wonder if "Stevie" will post a "vid" showing how "easy" it really is?
