Dexta VS Super Dexta

Does anyone know how to tell the difference between a dexta and a super dexta fordson?

I'm looking at some pictures in a listing online trying to figure out which tractor it is. Are the grilles the same? Any different sheet metal, or anything laid out differently? Thanks in advance.

The nose piece is different on the Dexta and Super Dexta. There is a cast emblem that goes almost entirely across the top front of the nose piece. It says "Super Dexta". The Dexta just has a small round badge there. Dead giveaway.

The Super Dexta used a Simms Minimec injection pump. Early versions used P4588 while the updated one used a P4696.
The engine displacement was changed 152 cubic inch displacement.

I don't know whether any Super Dextas used the Simms pneumatically governed pumps. You can see the visual difference in that the vacuum diaphragm housing is visible at the upper rear part of the Simms vacuum controlled injection pump. Minimecs don't have this. I don't really know.

I saw someone selling a Dexta Simms injection pump on ebay. They said it was for a Super Dexta, but I have my doubts as it had the Vacuum control housing of the pneumatically controlled injection pump. I could be wrong. My knowledge goes only so far.

Super Dexta tractors had a different radiator than the Dexta.

I think the rated horsepower on SDs was 39 and finally 44 while the Dexta was listed at 32-35 depending on bore??

The Minimec pump is not a certain difference between a Super and a Dexta as Dextas after 1962 also had a Minimec pump. I agree that no Super Dexta ever had a pneumatic governor and anyone claiming to own one is wrong with one exception.

I do know of one Super Dexta that came new with a pneumatic governor but when checked was found to have had a Dexta engine fitted at the factory.

Dextas ran from 1957 to 1964, Super Dextas from 1962 to 1964. Both were blue with orange wheels and silver grills until 1963 when the colours changed to blue castings and bonnet, Ford grey grills, rear wings and wheels.

The lower bonnet line is also a give-away when identifying which model you have, a Dexta lower bonnet curves down at the rear near the fuel tank a Super Dexta goes straight across.

Majorman,

Does that mean that even Dextas after 1962 had 39 horsepower?

Other than this and cosmetic differences were these Dextas any different from Super Dextas? Was the two stage clutch/pto also standard on Dextas after 1962. I know it came standard on Super Dextas.

Bye the way what happened to the recipient of the Super Dexta with the Dexta engine?
