Eating rust away

I finally found me a brush hog now. But it's bent sitting for 15 years. I've oiled and greased it up. But the drive shaft is rusted and won't slide in and out. I was thinking about soaking it in diesel for a couple weeks. Has anyone done this or doessays anyone have something else in mind to speed up the process?

that was the first thing I tried used a whole can and it didn't budge. A buddy was suggesting the diesel so I filled up a 3" pvc pipe about 4 1/2 long put 2 gallons in it and it's soaking hope it works. Just don't have a extra 100.00 to buy a new one

After it soaks for awhile run a small chain or cable
thru the space between the yokes on one
end.attach the other end back to the gearbox.pull
carefully with a pickup,four wheeler,whatever till it
gives.hit the seized area all around with a hammer
to loosen the rust first.

I was doing some research and found this stuff at AutoZone called rust away I was thinking about buying it supposably in 10 minutes to 24 hours it will eat the rust away from anything supposably. has anybody used it

We bought an auger that the shaft was stuck, I ended up hooking it between 2 big trees with a come-a-long. I put quite a bit
of tension on it and then started heating, just with a small propane torch, pretty soon, POW, it came apart! I cleaned
everything up and greased it well and all is fine.

Hopefully it is not like the sliding shaft on my Farm King mower. I used too much horsepower on too big willows and it twisted the shaft so it would not slide . I think I pulled it apart with the tractor and had to cut off some of the end of each sliding shaft to finally get it to slide again. Maybe yours is just rust.

I'm hoping it's just rust and it will clean up and be freely and work I didn't pay anything for the brush hog in the first place so I guess I'm not losing out of any money

(quoted from post at 09:48:44 02/01/18) I know this Probably sounds like a stupid question but what is ATF is it antifreeze

Automatic transmission fluid.

My personal preference is Seafoam Deep Creep. Seems to work good.

A Restorer at Gathering of The Green said he used Kroil. I got some off Amazon. I feel it is better than anything else I have used. I have to admit I have not tried the ATF and Acetone mix yet.
