Hello Everyone!

I'm very happy to be a member of your forum.
The knowledge you folks have shared is
amazing. I'm going to be starting a massive
restoration/repair project soon on what i
believe is a 1970s massey ferguson 20
industrial with a loader.

The previous owner drove it into a fire
immediatly after working on the fuel system.
The tractor obviously caught fire and the
damage is extensive. All data plates are
gone, or melted.

I'm sure I'll have some questions for the
forum as I move forward on my attempt to
bring this tractor back to life.

Welcome!
A rule of thumb I have often heard repeated about burned tractors is to check the oils. If they are present it stands a chance but if they are gone, so is the tractor. Not sure if it always applies but experience tells me it isn't too far off.

Well I guess I'm lucky on that one. All fluids look good. With the exception of the power steering. I imagine a new pump or a rebuild is required.
Can you see the pics I've tried to post? I can't find them.
Thanks, Sean

Pictures are not allow if your new on Y-T and it take a number of post or permission to post them. I have one tractor that was given to me this past summer that got hit by lightening and caught fire. Burned from the head up. Put in a new battery and drove it off the trailer the day I hauled it home. I did have to replace the radiator and a bunch of hoses etc.

Congrats on your tractor. I hope you named the thing thunder or lightning ECT. I'm not nearly that lucky. It got hot enough to melt the carburetor bowl, and all the radiator solder joints. Every hose is burnt, guages, seat, wiring, basically any soft part was ruined. On the engine the paint isn't even discolored which I was glad to see. I guess all the old grease protected it in a way. The starter didnt burn either which is odd considering the burn patterns. Ill most likely replace the starter to be safe.

I have most of the parts required to make it run now. I still need the steering pump, hoses, and the ignition components. With all my hoses being burnt and gone in some cases they are proving to be more of a challenge to replace Vs. the rest of the parts. I'm hoping to find someone around the Kansas city area that has one of these tractors so I can get some measurements in the near future.

I think several of the 1970s industrials use the same hydraulic hoses. Mf20, mf30 mf40 ECT.

Thanks for the info on the pictures. I was very confused. lol

This one I have I drove off the trailer with out the hoses or coolant but also only ran it for maybe 5 minutes or so. It is a IH584 diesel. By the way I live down here at the Lake of the Ozarks

Your tractor sounds like a very good find. I stay in Peculiar, Missouri just south of KC. I do some boating at the lake every summer. My boat is a little too small for the LOTO though. I restored and customized my boat a few years back. A word to the wise..... don't ever re-gelcoat a whole boat yourself. It was a nightmare that I don't recommend others experience. It turned out amazing but the labor involved was incredible. That boat project taught me something. It taught me that, just because you can do something doesn't mean that you should actually do it! I learn everything the hard way of course. Lol
Have a great day!

Once I am able to post pics I'll share my current and past projects with everyone.
