OT---Old trailer value?

An acquaintance has expressed interest in buying an old trailer I have. It is an old implement flat deck bumper pull with tandem axle. Yep it was made from a mobile home frame. 6X12' deck. Deck boards are in good shape but it has no lights and been sitting outside 9 years. Assuming the tires are still servicable (I had plywood sheilding them somewhat from sun) what would be a fair price? The tires are 14.5 I see Ebay sells 'em for about 60 bucks.....

I know if the trailer were mine, I'd be more concerned about liability than price.

This doesn't answer your question, but something to think about.

Yes, On the bill of sale (and title if any) write: As is, where is, Not roadworthy. Sold as components only. Purchaser accepts all responsibility for removal and transport of the above described components. Jim

In Kansas that trailer would sell in the $600 to $1200 range depending on overall condition and appearance. If it didn't have fenders or ramps to load cars or items - $600. If it had fenders, good floor and a presentable paint job it would go for $1200 every day of the week.

I don't why people started giving legal advice when you asked for a price.

I think all previous posters guessed about 3 times what it is worth. Tires, springs Jack hitch, lights count up fast. I replaced a lot of mobil home axles with trailer axles and the old stuff sold for scrap. One customer wanted me to load his old axles to take back home. I sent them back but never knew why he wanted them

The reason, most likely has to due with their past experience with sue-happy people. Myself I do like advice, most of the time, even if I had not asked for it. joe

Around here old trailers are not worth much unless they are realy something. Home made trailers are all over the place. Some were built right and others not so much and unless you were there when it was built or actauly built it there is no good way of knowing. Trailer house axles hurt its value as the 14.5 rims and tires are getting harder to find. Also the rims are difficult at best to balance. Also mobile home frames and camper frames are NOT as heavy built as everybody thinks. They are just strong enough to pull the house down the road a few times. Also alot of the strength is in the house its self. Remove that from the frame and you lost half its strength.

for something like that homemade and not road worthy i would not give more than 3-400.00. those old trailer tires are not legal on the road. so what ever you can get is better than nothing.

If you don't know it would be wise for you to find out.

For some reason even the crappiest home built ones bring a high price in Kansas.

They actually seem to sell fairly fast. Most factory built trailers can be used and abused for 10 years and then still sell for what they sold for new. I bought a bumper hitch trailer house axle trailer at an auction a few years ago - 16' with ramps for $400 - thought I had made quite the deal. About an hour later a guy walked up to me and asked if I bought the trailer and wanted to know what it would take to buy it from me. I told him $800 - in cash. About 20 minutes later he tracked me down and paid me the $800 in cash. Haven't seen one like it sell for less than $800 since that day - I sold it too cheap.

Not seeing, but based on description & trailer house components, I wouldn't risk $200 on it. Anything you can get is a plus. my 2¢
