10-10-10 or something with all three NPK numbers about equal is considered garden fertilizer.

I do my own corral cleaning.

Come fall I put 4 or 5 dump truck loads of well aged material on the garden and level it off.

In spring a couple of passes with a cultivator and it is ready to plant.

The worst part of fertilizing a garden is you end up putting too much on,,and that can be much worse than nothing at all,,I know this sounds picky,, but measure your plot and convert it to tenths of an acre, then apply much to the same rate that you would on farm ground,,it works out to about a 5 gallon bucket full on my garden.
