Washing tractors

Hot water is needed for grease but their is a commercial product called GUNK that will somewhat dissolve the grease. Get it in a liquid and spray on or in an aerosol can.

I have found that cheap oven cleaner works about as well as anything. I do mean the cheap stuff. Dollar store stuff work fine.

I've used oven cleaner with some success.

Still helps to scrape off the heavy stuff first.

A pressure washer is also a big plus.

If the engine will run, get it up to temperature, that will help soften the grease and make the cleaner more aggressive.

If you're not worried about washing off some of the old paint,
dollar store oven cleaner and a pressure washer. Wear a mask.
The fumes can be bad. This is one I was getting ready to re-paint.

(quoted from post at 19:49:47 01/25/18) What would you use to clean engines the sheet metal is off trying to do a good job we dont have hot water .
good evening ron, I use sunlight liquid dish soap, it do's a great job on burnt on dishes and pans, of course it will do a better job with hot water but it works with cold as well. and idea for your no hot water issue, look on cr or local papers, online etc. for a 40 gallon gas or propane hot water tank, you put a garden hose fitting on the outlet and inlet, propane connecter from a 20 or 40 or 100 lb. bottle, turn on your water supply, when the tank is full, light the burner, go have a coffee, come back hook up your pressure washer, turn on the water and your away. 40 gallons of hot water will be more than enough to wash your tractor. I have rigged this system up twice for me and several times for neighbors. works great.

Yep thats what i was going to do went and got oven some simple green put in the fruit sprayer/the green and put on to night will start the tractors to warm them up /then the oven cleaner presser washer is still in the shop from cleaning combines. One of them is the 5000 we just put the new motor bearing in

A product called Simple Green works good.

Just follow the directions and rinse with a power washer.

I put together two male air hose ends with a pipe nipple. That makes for a very powerful blowgun from my air compressor. That will remove even the most stubborn grease. Then draw a pail of hot water from the house, add some liquid soap, grab the boot brush and clean it up. Other wise haul it down to the local truck wash. You can wash your truck and trailer at the same time.

Clean up man at the car dealership uses stuff called Red Power. It takes off everything except paint with little elbow grease.

A simple warning about oven cleaner and Lye gravy. Make sure you get it completely power washed off. Because when you go back to clean up your tractor/parts with a wire wheel or wire cup that dust will settle on anything close by and a little dew or rain will reactivate it. Will put the hurt on a cars paint job. Don't ask me how I know this. lol Of course personal safety equipment is a given when working with any caustic cleaners wet or dry. gobble

Dollar store oven cleaner in gallons. Color does not matter. Mix a 50-50 solution in a spray bottle or air pressure sprayer. After going all over give it 15 minutes to penetrate. after removing all that will come off with the pressure washer, repeat where it needs it and allow another 15 minutes. For grease you need something heavy duty, not something designed to be gentle on your hands.

Nothing like a power washer that can make it's own hot water ! Years ago I bought a Hotsy power washer and really like it .

I buy Brake Parts Cleaner in the spray can. Is an economical method I use to clean up things where I don't want to do a number on painted surfaces and being petroleum based, it evaporates and doesn't cause problems in electrical connections and such.

One such use of it is to spray "rattle" paint can nozzles after use. Just a squirt and the can is ready for the next use without a clogged nozzle and you don't have to use all your propellant blowing out the thing.....on the newer "spray in any direction" cans this old tried and true method of can inversion doesn't work anyway.

I would not use oven cleaner unless planning to repaint.

I use purple power to soak, then pressure wash.

I've become more careful at the car wash after discovering my Farmall air cleaner cup full of water. I think it'd been full for several years.
