Great Plains drill

Half thinking of changing my drill this spring or next, not in a hurry, just curious at the moment. Anyway anyone on here use a great plains 1205 or 1206 drill? Just wondered how people like them.

I can't speak for that model but my FIL is on his second Great Plains drill. When it came time a few years ago to replace his older 24-ft model we didn't do much looking around at other brands - he knew he wanted another GP. We've found the quality to be good, the metering is accurate, openers do their job well, and adjustments are easy. I'm sure the desire to buy locally-made products results in part of GP's strong popularity here in central Kansas (they're built in Salina) but if they didn't work well I'm sure we'd see fewer of them in the fields.

I have a 1006NT. Bought it used ten years ago. Only issue I have had is I do have adjust the clutch every couple hundred acres.

Got a 20' Gret Plains no-till drill and coulter cart. Does a good job as far as I'm concerned. Anything I need I get from shoupparts.com.

I have an older 15 foot GP and I think it works just fine. There are a couple of points that were fixed in later models. 1) is the drive chains are on the outside of the drill and I remove them every year to protect them from the weather, newer drills have these chains inside the drill. 2) is the hitch to the tractor, it is a cast piece that sits on top of the drawbar; a bolt goes through the front part to keep it aligned with the drawbar and the main draw bolt goes through the drill, the piece and the tractor drawbar. It works but a pain to hook up. Newer drills do not seem to have this or it is call a weight transfer device but if it is I'm missing something.

We've had one since the late 80's still using it. 15 ft notill with cart. Put a couple sets of coulters on the cart and all the opener disks a couple of years ago. Need to put new coulter disks on this year and some opener disks.
One thing get the V wheel closing wheels on it rather than the single wheel. It will work better for planting notill beans I believe. The single one dosen't seem to cover good in some conditions. I do hope they have come up with a better depth control than this one has. That little clip over the nut doesn't cut it.
