Cross motors?

I watched a Minn. Mo. crossmotor bellowing as it ran a threshing machine at my grandfathers place in 1943. I have seen several Case crossmotors since. Were there any other manufactures of crossmotors and don't bother with John Deere, I worked there as they built the last of the two cylinders! Did Hart-Parr do any after their original one? Leo

Here is video shot at Albert City last year. The old tractor really roars.

No, just any number of cylinders mounted crosswise. I assume it was an effort to either concentrate the weight to the rear for traction or to use simple parallel spur gear technology. leo

At least a couple of the big "prairie tractors" were crossmotors:
Altman-Taylor 30-60; 4 cylinders laid over flat
Avery 40-80; 4 cylinder "boxer" engine (layout similar to VW bug and Subaru)

Other early 2 cylinder cross motors:
Eagle H40 tractor
All(?) Rumely Oil Pull tractors
International Mogul and Titan tractors

I've photographed all the above at the Canandiagua NY "Pageant of Steam" the past couple years.
