DETROIT 4 71

Any of you good folk have a picture of the emergency shutoff--in case of a run-a way on a mid 60's Detroit 4 71 diesel engine....thanks

On the intake housing of the blower, look for a cable like an old lawnmower throttle cable. There should be a lever attached to it, that can be tripped. If tripped, it can be reset by pulling the lever back in place and it'll lock in the open/run position.

Hello lenray,

It is on the intake tube close to the blower. There is a shaft that goes through the pipe that has a flapper on the inside, just like a stove flue damper. There is a spring loaded catch on the outside on the tube. An eyelet has a hole where a cable is attached and it goes into the cab, or control panel, depending on application,

Hello lenray

I found this breakdown for a 6/71. Closer of the same setup as for a 4/71?I was thinking of a different setup on my first reply oops!

Not all have the spring loaded catch. I have one from the late 40's and it only uses a pull cable. However it is in the exact same spot.
