OT Facebook help

So I decided to play around with this a bit. Daughter has my business on FB and somehow I have a personal page...know NOTHING about it. So I get all these "friend requests". Many are from people I know, like tax clients. So I decided I would "friend" several of these that I have known a long time and some of the results have been wonderful. Nice pictures of them doing things during the year. On the other hand, one of them who is a tax client, is a problem. Not doing anything intentionally to offend me, but she is a women's rights activist and a bit of a radical from my perspective. AND she hates the Donald. One horrible post after another about him. I should say, I am not a Donald fan...I voted for "not Hi!!ary". But he is the president and deserves my respect and support. Like some of what he does, not always how he does it. Now, in my business, the only people we discriminate against are the ones who do not pay their bill or are flat out tax felons. Can I click the "stop following ..." option without her finding out? Offending her could cost me thousands in lost income...don't want that. Plus, I believe in her right to her beliefs. Just not on my Facebook page. Any suggestions?

Yes.

You can “unfollow” or “unfriend” without her knowing you did so.

Unfollow means you no longer see anything she posts in your feed, but she will stay on your “friends” list.

Unfriend means neither her nor you will find each other in your list of friends.

She will not receive any type of notification if you choose either option.

I’ve been doing one or the other a lot lately...

Fb doesn't send notifications when you unfollow or unfriend, theu just stop seeing you and her you. It's unlikely she will notice.

Dave, like you I farm part-time on the side but have a professional job and am blessed that I get to work from home full time to do it too. I don't want an online profile my employer can search for with some of this kind of stuff being posted possibly being twisted the wrong way and impacting my employment. I have nearly 30 years in and need to get to about 45 before I retire (52 with my youngest boy only 7) so I can't afford to mess it up with something like Facebook. My wife had to un-follow her sisters for the exact same reasons you state. Also my oldest son's girlfriend's mom too. They can still go and look up your feed "manually" and you theirs so long as you are still "friends". Mike

No she would not even notice if you "unfollow" her. If you want to keep her as a "friend" so you can contact each other unfollowing would be a great option. You can still go to her profile and see what she has to say if you want. If you have no need to be in contact, you can unfriend her. She won't know until she tries to look at your page or tries to message you.

So a died in the wool radical/progressive employs a CPA to lower her tax burden? I thought they loved taxes and were always willing to vote to raise them (on other people).

You could say on Facebook due to the overwhelming number of contacts you are deleting many simply to reduce clutter but they will remain friends in the old fashioned way. Thus you can remove those that make you feel uncomfortable without offending anyone. Just a thought...
Ben

Just ask your daughter fix it. she'll know what to do, whether it is unfriend or unfollow, she'll know. Likes been said here many times, if you have a computer problem, social media issue just ask some one in their teens. jmho gobble

I had to delete Facebook I could not handle the way people treat each other on Facebook the personal attacks are more than I could stand . There are a lot of good things on Facebook like the tractor pages but even they get out of hand so I just got rid of the whole thing

Just my personal opinion, but I consider face book to be simply a useless gossip site. I emphasize USELESS. How many first graders did it take to think up that name? I can assure you that I will be the last person on Earth to even think about going onto that site for exactly the reasons you just outlined.
If only George Carlin was still around. He would have a field day with this one.

I was thinking along those lines Ben, but if you pardon me saying...if you know the "type" of person I am talking about then you know they are not reasonable or rational people. Suspicious and intolerant, she will not take it well.

I cannot say a lot, but the husband is a long time client since before she was around. She is good to him and actually not a bad person to deal with in all other regards. Let her think she has a public forum and the bile spews out of her. Unfortunate really. I like her in all other respects.

Thanks for all the help! I am going to unfollow her and hope for the best. If she catches on I will just explain that, as a man, I am not really wanting to be notified of every womens march and rally and let her think what she wants. I'm already doing this years work for them so if she has an issue I can deal with it face to face and put it to bed. Thanks again all!

I have been looking for a graceful way to get rid of a few unbearable folks on my wife's account. Don't look at me, daughters set up the thing so she could keep in touch with family. We have been very selective, but a couple just aren't worth reading. (Guess why I don't have an account.)

Yes,absolutely tons of tractor places on there with lots of stuff for sale...Facebook is OK if you use it right...I dont do the friends thing..

Just one question? how do you get the information the county, Sheriff's office, school district, fire department, store information you deal at and the like put out only on facebook? To me that is the only reason to have it and no I do not have it. It seems these places only think everybody does the silly facebook thing.

(quoted from post at 00:43:21 01/19/18) Facebook is a lot like this site.

That's what I was thinking. I wondered how long it would be till someone brought that up.
You can get all the same stuff right here--political commentary, what people had for lunch, plus every random thought anyone ever had on every conceivable subject.
Oh-and once in a while there's even some tractor information here!

If you open one of her post there should be 3 little dots in the upper right hand corner of her post, click on the 3 little dots, it should give you the option to quit getting post from her if so click on the option to quit getting post from her and that should do it and she will never know unless you get mad and tell her.
