This shall be my last post....of 2017. Just to show how backward I am, I have no clue how Amazon works, is it like E-bay? Do you set-up an account? How are payments made? Thank you to allyou smart folks.... And blessings for your New year!

Set up an account yes. You can signup for "Prime" for an annual fee and get free shipping. Works OK if you order a lot of stuff on a regular basis. You just set it up to pay with a credit or debit card.

Wife uses it, thinks she gets pretty good deals there. For me, anything farm and / or tractor related, eBay has always been better selection and cheaper priced. But for household stuff, she really likes it.

It is a giant retail catalog . You can bring up a cylinder hone or a book. Just put in the search box the item you want.

That is about the only place my sons order from. Pretty easy to use and search for items. If you buy a lot of stuff getting Amazon prime can save money on shipping. We only have one account and the whole family uses it. Its fun at Christmas time as if your name is on the account you will get an email every time something is purchased so if your family buys you something you know what it is before its even shipped.

If you sign up for prime get the Amazon card and get 2% points on purchases. I use points to add on small stuff to a bigger order. I put a pretty low limit on mine and keeps all the Amazon purchases on one card, hopefully reduces risk of hackers charging to it.

No it doesn't go to the Walton family. Large sums of the profits go to Jeff Bezos, founder and largest share holder. Estimated (on 12-28-17) to be worth $99.6 Billion.

Yes, create an account & search till your hearts content.. its a "buy it now" site.. NOT a "bid" site.
Sign up for the CC & 1st purchase is $50.-$60.00 off..
AND every purchase you make, on or off the site, gets "points" that can be redeemed for Amazon purchases or money back..
I JUST purchased $60.00 window rain guards for the wifes car & a replacement dash for a car I bought w/ NO MONEY out of pocket by using points..

Amazon is more like the old Montgomery Ward, Sears and JC Penny catalogs than it is like E-bay or Craig's List. Shop at home for new merchandise, place your order, pay by credit card, and wait for it to be delivered to your mail box.

I've got a 280 dollar credit from a return and they won't give it back. They say I have to spend it there. I even called and was told that. Everything I see has inflated shipping charges. I'm not going to pay 160 bucks for prime to save a few bucks on shipping. Everything I see on amazon is cheaper on ebay and mostly has free shipping.

The problem I see with ordering online is that eventually it will put stores out of business. What will we all do when we need something then. That said, I do order from them somnetimes. All you need is a credit or check card and you can order. The best deals are on Prime tho and you need to pay for thgat lik e Sam's club or some of the others.

Bezos also owns the Wash. Post.
I've researched how Amazon does business & Bezos' ethics.
I will forever avoid doing any business with them.
I think he should be indicted like some of his buddies currently are.

I signed up and used it once to send a gift to someone in the city.

Overall reasonable deals but because couriers do not deliver to the ranch or post office the whole thing is pretty much useless to anybody in Canada that does not have a physical street address.

I could have them deliver a package to the feed store but by the time I drive an hour round trip any savings are burnt up in fuel.

Same goes for anything on ebay that is listed with the global shipping service, they also use couriers so any US sellers that use it loose all the rural customers as well.

"The problem I see with ordering online is that eventually it will put stores out of business. What will we all do when we need something then?" The same as now. The reason I order online is because no local stores carry what I need or else they want an arm and leg for it. TDF

(quoted from post at 10:24:18 12/31/17) Everything I see on amazon is cheaper on ebay and mostly has free shipping.
Most of the stuff Ilook at on Ebay has outrageous shipping prices. Sometimes the shipping is as much as the item price. Although I still shop on Ebay I've had good luck on amazon.ca and find them good to deal with.

I get a lot of stuff on amazon. Order online, here tomorrow or the next day. Have bought tools, hardware, sump pumps, groceries (lots of dry goods), etc. No time wasted driving somewhere to find out they don't have what you came for.

Came across the same problem yesterday looking on ebay. A facet fuel pump, smaller than a beer can and weight probably 2 lbs.
The seller wants $57 for shipping ????

The problem won't arise til the store is gone and you need something right away and can't get it at any price. Then what?

For sale on Amazon for 49 bucks .

I?ve never had much trouble getting deliveries with
couriers, and I live in the country in Ontario. 2 hrs
from Toronto, 15 mins to any small town. I?ve also
used Global Shipping Program, and never had any
trouble.

I agree.

I buy a lot of stuff on Amazon that I'd be happy to buy locally if anyone had it. I don't see where it's a threat to local stores when the local stores don't have it anyway.

I never use Amazon unless I can't find it anywhere else because of their politics. They support liberalism, communism, new world orderism, gayism, taxism, gun controlism and probably more isms that I forgot.

No idea why it is different for you.

Are you on a paved road or a main route?
Do you have a street address?
Is it a business they are delivering to?

Unless things have changed recently no street address no service is what I have always been told.
You mention a land location and it is like you are from another planet.

The one problem I've had with it lately has been if you order multiple items that come from different places. Seems they get shipped to a central location and all boxed up to be shipped together. The wife was ordering some stuff for Christmas and I told her to add an electric fuel pump to it. That was a huge mistake. It took a week and a half to get it. I think if I'd have ordered it separate it probably would have gotten shipped right out by itself.

Amazon website sells stuff they actually have in their warehouses.
They also list stuff being sold by others, for a cut of the sales I am sure).
I also think the wife said when ordering multiple items there is a box to check in the process that tells them to ship all in one box.
Not sure if that includes the non-amazon sellers stuff.

If you were in or around Walmart close to Christmas, I don't think there is much worry about them going out of business anyways soon, I ordered on line from them and they sent it to my house free and I didn't have to fight the crowd. I'm happy!

Make sure you order the right part, some of the sellers charge a huge restocking fee, so be sure to check for that before you buy. Don't ask me how I know.
