Should somebody stop me?

Son's dad In law has a 70's yanmar tractor ym1500 which he ran out of diesel fuel 2 years ago and he could ever get it to run. Been outside with vertical exhaust covered. Has good tires, need paint but not beat up. He and son said it ran good when parked, wants $400. Book says 17hp and weighs 1300 pounds.

Make sure it is not a gray market one that was originally sold in another country and later brought to US. They are next to impossible to get parts for if so.

Should add, it is the green one just prior to
change to red. As I understand from reading it
is not considered grey market. Do not need and
thought I was through with projects.

Well, for that price you can't lose much. If it was just list it's prime you could get quite a deal, if it's actually a junker you could part it out for that money.

Had a 850 john deere built by yammar> Ran it out of diesel, had to bleed the injection pump the the injectors to get it to run. Just about bought a new pump for it but guy at diesel shop had some experience with that model pump. Said that you had to bleed pump first.

Easy enough to bleed. Just make an adapter to go on fuel tank and use about ten pounds air pressure to push fuel thru pump and then to injectors. Bought one the same way and repair shop told that trick.

Them tractors are bad about over heating if you do not keep the antifreeze mixture correct because they do not have a water pump or thermostat.

I had an 850 that I kept for 25 years and put about 50 hours a year on it. I had the the same experience if ran out of diesel but rarely did. Only problem I ever had with it was the 3 point got very weak once but I changed oil and filter and worked fine after that. Great little tractor.

Good little tractors,Hoye Tractor has anything you'd need for it.I'd put fuel in it,bleed the system best I could and hook to it and with another tractor and tow it a while it should fire up pretty easy like that.

thanks for all the replies and the priceless information on bleeding it. I have seen yanmars and can even pronounce it but never used one so should be a learning experience. as like a lot of us, he is aging with health issues and want/need it gone. he does have a mower and tiller for it I will purchase separately.
