jD 2010 gas

Sure, many say this tractor was JD?s worst. Who knows. But mine always starts right up when it goes below freezing, no problem. Ethanol does not seem to bother the thing. Long as the battery cranks well, very dependable.

Your one of the lucky ones so far. Just wait till you have to do some major work to it and then you will find out why many of us called them bad ones. I had a friend who had one and to work on it you almost always hard o remove 3 parts to get to what you where needing to work on

I would say it is everything except that engine. That is a very good engine and used in most of the 45SP combines. The engine for the 1010 and 40 combine is same engine except the deck plate is made for 115 cu in instead of the 145 in your engine and later engines of the 165 bolt directly in your tractor and the 165 deck plate and pistons will fit your engine and give you more power.

I second that Dad bought a new 2010 diesel
rowcrop. Think it was a 1960. Best it would
do was 38hp on a dyno. Backed a 801 Ford
diesel to same dyno it had 50 hp. We had a
JD B. With a power block. It would out
work it. It did have a good seat and power
steering.

Not the worst tractor ever made but certainly not the tractor Deere said it was. Deere bragged about 35 horse but it could barely pull its own weight up a steep hill in road gear. Very under powered. Over complicated to work on. There are much better tractors out there both green and other colors.

To be fair, they weren't any worse than some of the other manufacturers offerings of the same size, in the same era.

To me the worst part was the dash mounted controls. On the row crop utility they were too close to the steering wheel that you could not get a hold of them without hitting your hane on the steering wheel. The row crop with tricical front that was taken care of as the steering wheel sat higher giving you access to the controls. I drove my uncles row crop utility and had that problem hitting the wheeo whenever I wanted to move a control. His was a diesel and pulled the same 3 bottom plow with it that he had for his 70D. That gas engine I know what they are like and will do as I had the same engine in 2 No. 45 combines and the 165 inch version in a third combine.

A lot of people who have never even seen, much less owned, a 1010 or 2010 will feel the need to give their expert opinion on what terrible tractors they are. Common human failing.
