Back on processed corn and seeing imediate results

We finally ran out of last year's unprocessed corn and started a new pile 10 days ago from our new to us chopper. On our 60 cows that are going in the tank it has come up and held 200 liters per pickup from any pickup prior to the switch. That is exactly 1.73kg/cow or 3.81 lbs and those figures match what the robot's saying. Very happy and looking forward to what the BMR will do. Merry Christmas to everyone!

So how many litres per cow (1.75?) does that work out to and approx what percent gain would that be per day?

It's very interesting to see ways to make gains that directly in farming. I wish I could find some direct way to measure an increase with our cranberries.

Merry Christmas from the West Coast!

Usually do not see that much of a gain just form processed corn verses unprocessed. It is usually 2-3% tops. I wonder if the quality of the corn itself is different??? That can vary much more than you would think.

Either way I am glad your milk production went up. You dairy guys need all the lbs./kg you can get.

That's a really nice website you guys have! How long have you folks been doing cranberries? There's a Willkie family near here that has a cranberry bog as well as seed potatoes and a beautiful collection of mostly John Deere tractors they restored themselves. If you guys ever make it out to PEI let me know and we'd be happy to have you guys for a visit and introduce you to the Willkies.

Thanks Philip.
It's funny the website kind of gets neglected in terms of updating for advertising. Face Book drives most of the digital and print media now.... my wife takes care of it all, I just show up for pictures when she tells me to.

The main picture is probably 10 years old, my daughter is 13 now. Probably time to get my son on there too as he is 7.

My Father-in-law, the tall guy in the picture lives in Nova Scotia. We try to get out every so often, but haven't made it to PEI yet. When we do I will look you guys up. Same to you guys if you make it out this way... I can take you to a few of the dairy guys around here... robots and all.

All the best and Merry Christmas. We're actually in snow this years so it's time to go out and play with the kids on the toboggan hill.

A bit,we went 3/8,longest we could go without taking knives out. What length do you use? Our legumes got slaughtered last winter. We're feeding some pretty low protein silage and our BF is running over 4.5%

Haha good for you guys! Sounds great,I hope we can take you up on that sometime. Merry Christmas!

I'm at 7/8 in length of cut with the processor. Some go longer yet, but that can be harder on processor belts. We did 3/8 like you are when we first started out... you'll like going longer.
