Just watched one called Homestead rescue,,,ever see that one? People had an Amish built tool shed
dropped off ,and were trying to live off grid,,the family from Alaska taught them how to
survive,,,what do you think? (lol)

Haven?t seen the show. Bet they get back on the grid before l0ng.
As for me, I have a backup plan to live off the grid if I have too. But I Just don?t want too.

It'd be pretty interesting to me.I have a spot up on the mountain on my place I've always wanted to build a house but I don't think it'll happen so now I'm thinking of getting a
12 X 20 Amish built shed from PA (we have one already for storage) and make a cabin/deer stand out of it.There is a good Spring there so water is no problem and I've looked into self composting toilets. And when I want to take a shower or what ever I can always come back down to the house.Have a Fisher Baby Bear wood stove I'll use for heat.

I watched it for just part of the show. The father from Alaska cut a 55 gal. drum in half and welded the halves to a shaft, put it on a tower with an old lawnmower tranny at bottom of shaft, and said it would run an old hand pump to fill a plastic tank setting up on a bank. The wind mill never turned, and they ended up taking turns to operate the hand pump to fill the tank. Total waste of good scrap metal. They were all in dream world. There were other equally stupid things they did also.Stupidest show yet. The daughter wasn't too hard on the eyes though.

I liked the overall premise of the show and the characters, but one has to remember it's scripted and produced for an audience, so you have all the nonsense that goes with it, which I have to believe is why they portray some real foolishness at times. I guess you can't get a television show produced without this element of nonsense, they must think the audience is uniformed, gullible or naive about the subject matter. The idea that they will go and help out a homesteader by building it better or a complete rebuild is great, because each one is different, and you could possibly learn something by watching. However, the added drama, scripted situations and things similar incorporated to potentially "dazzle" the audience, fills the show with too much fluff.

Mountain Men - Tom, how many enjoy watching what he does ? So their are parts of it which are really interesting to watch and learn, but its outnumbered by drama and other like things written in that one may not care about. So, it all depends on how much of this you have to get through to get to the parts you really want to see.

I don't turn the set on all that much lately, but have seen this show quite a bit. One scene where the son, (son daughter and father with stetson hat that help these people), tosses a log into the homesteaders pick up truck and sends it right through the back window. Any fool who loads their truck with firewood knows better, uses a plywood headboard or something similar, or just uses lots of care when loading. That was just plain stupid, but you know it was written in for "effect" or something.

The only shows like that that I watch are Dr Pol and Dr Oakley. I get a little irritated that Dr Oakley tends to handle these animals, supposedly to check their health, more than is necessary. I understand that they do it just to show these animals up close to the audience, but sometimes they cause more problems for these animals by handling them than they'd have if they were just left alone.

I find it interesting but there are signs of sections being scripted . The land owner usually have some objection to doing things the Raineys way. Seems real fake to be resistant to someone trying to help you.

Hi Larry It's Good to see you are doing well from reading your posts, and wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas. To be honest I quit watching those shows unless My girlfriend is in control of the TV. I find some of these type guys interesting.

I just go find a few guys on youtube, that are doing it and filming the real deal without all the scripted drama " production crews" add, for the ones that are totally clueless about some situations not being as serious as they are made out to be.

They seem to forget in the real world we aren't all totally stupid and have probably done the stuff, if we live on a farm or are a contractor of some description. I'd bet if there was a show about working with stone you'd watch 2 shows then turn it off to , I do it with mechanics shows as well L.O.L !

Regards Robert

The problem with them are the all the idiots who produce, and edit them. Most of them live in a city, and don't really much about what they produce, or edit. The worst part, the production crew (who place camera's, etc) don't care about your stuff, if you have nice stuff some of it won't be nice after they mount their cameras on whatever on it.

Haven't had a TV for over 10 years. Last week went to wife's sisters house for family Christmas. It seems to be 40 minutes of commercials and 20 minutes of program. Something about some moonshiners. If I want to waste my time that's what I have a computer for.

I do not watch any reality television, would rather experience it myself than spend time watching it.

I just wish he would stop shoving his arm up the animals a...... Does he have some kind of rear end fixation? Probably the tv producer does.
