Merry Christmas

Vrolijk Kerstfeest. My Great Grandfather immigrated from Holland. Worked hard, brought his wife and children over and built a dairy. My grandfathers brothers ran the herd and he bottled the milk. My mom used to deliver the milk in the 30's and 40's. Mom told me they never new there was a depression.
I've got some pics of their truck, none of the place I grew up. I'll try to scan them in. "Wester's Seneca Dairy" If anyone's got any of their bottles, I'd be interested.

A lot of Dutch people/families arrived in New Zealand after WW2 and predomintantly worked in the dairy farm industry. Some farmers "Imported" these workers and they became permenant reliable staff. They worked hard and honestly and contributed much to New Zealand's dairy industry, and in view of the post war shortages of food, to the total New Zealand economy.

Story is the same here in Canada, Dutchmen immigrated here after WW 2 . They first came as farm labourers, and some left and took factory jobs, while others bought farms. Many worked in factory jobs, and bought farms , and farmed part time till they could drop the off farm job. The sons of these Dutchmen are the same age as me. They and I always, and still do get along very well together. I dairy, and many of my friends are this first generation of Dutch kids , born in Canada. Not trying to knock anyone, cause that is not my way. But the ?off the boat? Dutch guys that come now with suit cases full of money, are not the same kind of people. I know three old fellas that came in the early 50?s , they are now between 86 and 90. They all have sons milking cows, and these guys are just plain good folks.

Bruce, you are a 100% correct, my area by Lake Huron is like that as well. The older Dutch population is great to get along with and are an asset to the community. The newer immigrants from Holland seem to be more self serving and arrogant with little regard for the established ones. A friend who runs a welding shop came to Canada as a teen from the Netherlands avoids doing work for the new ones just because of the hassle he gets from them. Funny thing is I?ve spent a lot of time over there, and never had any issues with anyone, seems all the ones who are obnoxious are drawn to Canada like a magnet.....

Hi about 1955 give or take, a whole lot of dutch immigrants came to the fraser valley. Some bought farms some got jobs and saved to buy a farms later.A lot were devout Christians. They were good workers and real good farmers. I went to school with a lot of them. They built their farms up. Farms now run by their children , huge dairy farms worth mllions now. Generally real good neighbors and friends. Ed Will Oliver BC
