My brother worked at Thurk Bros. Chev years ago and one of the old mechanics had a broken ratchet to return to the Snap-on man. the Snap-on man gave him grief and asked how long of a cheater bar he used. He replied "They come in 21' lengths'!

It reminds me of a sign on my shop wall, It is a drawing of two ball peen hammers , one small other larger. Under the small one it says "tune up" under the larger " overhaul". Merry Christmas , joe

I gave a 1/2" break over back to the Snap On man once, bent into a perfect U shape.

He asked if I used a cheater pipe.

"Nope"

He gave me that "Yeah, right" look.

"Seriously, I did not use a cheater pipe. Now, do you really want to argue with someone that did that without using a cheater?"

It was all said in fun. I finally admitted how it happened. Trying to get a very tight park brake drum nut off the back of a truck transmission. I put the socket on the nut, bar against the frame, bumped the starter. Instead of bumping, it started!

Bent that bar into a near circle, but didn't break it.

The nut did come loose.

Snap On man replaced it!

That must have been one of those " Oh 5^^^^p moments when you cant turn the key off fast enough and the moter has to coast to a stop adding insult to injury. With electricity they are even faster. You hear BUZZZUMP!!. THEN there is a whole lot of stinky smoke. Your tool would have made a great picture.

We used to say, give a railroad mechanic a rubber hammer and an anvil, and he'll break the anvil!!!

Sometimes, the hot wrench is the quickest, easiest, cleanest way to get the job done.
