Got the check from the Winchester Market today, not only was there good entertainment in the parking lot backing trailers the goats sold well too.The young Billies and Nannys I raised this past year bought from $2.70 to $2.80 a pound, even the cull does and couple old bucks bought $1.70 to $1.85 a pound wish my calves would sell like that.

Sold 5 weight heifers at 1.70 last month I?d think it would take a fair amount of goats to weigh 500 pounds

Goats do very well, its ethnic traditions that keep the prices good,,the Spanish people used to love to buy live chickens from my dad,,the old roosters brought a good price.

Definitely smaller than calves but goats have twins most times and I can easily keep 6 or so goats on what 1 cow will eat.The cows and goats actually work best when run together the cows eat the tough grass goats don't like but the goats will eat things like bushes, thistles, vines etc that hurt the cow's pasture. Can keep a couple goats per acre and improve the cattle pasture.

I?ve been reading that sheep and goats work very well with cattle I wouldn?t mind trying it but put on my range I?d have to put a million dollars worth of new fence in to hold the sheep

Goats most filthy animal on today's planet. Been cleaning up after and getting the darn things in for 25 years.

How do you keep goats in the field with cattle??? Any darn goat I ever saw would not be held in with most cattle fence.

I fence with panels and woven wire, great feeling not to have to worry about calves getting out plus I can keep Guard Dogs,Geese etc in the field. The goats will pay for the
extra fencing in a hurry for me as I never have to bush hog the pastures and some of my land is very steep that I can't run a tractor on so the goats keep the bushes down on that, they
love steep rocky land.

Just like hogs and cattle really only as nasty as the conditions they are kept in,actually goats are very clean animals given the conditions they need, most people with goats keep them in
too small of an area.My goats rarely get out because I put up good fence to start with, have a large area to roam and they have plenty to eat.

What kind of goats do you raise? We raise pygmy and get a good price for them. We have a local butcher that is certified by the nnalert to process them "their" way. As for the goats getting out I turn mine out most evenings and they roam the farm eating leaves and cleaning up spilled grain around the bins, all I have to do is yell hey goats and they come running in the barn to be fed.

If you have a very large area to let them roam goats won't range but so far, they're not like cattle where they just keep traveling. They're more like hogs give them a little feed or shelled corn late every evening and they'll be there to eat.We used to let the hogs out on the mountain on our place to eat acorns in the Fall but they'd be home for feeding time every evening.(LOL)

goats ain't hard to keep in, just put some electric fence in. been keeping them for 20 yrs. other then the bucks during breeding season they are a clean animal

My only problem is the summer range is about 50 miles north of the home place so it just wouldn?t work for me
