As I see it the quicker You stack them -the less spoilage - the tops of every bale and all the sides are out in the weather if You dont -- To some it doesnt seem to bother I guess -but under every bale is also some regrowth problems to-- I guess if You are not out for maximum profit You can do anything Ya want -- just My thoughts --- Roy

They are going to have a bunch of sick or dead horses if they let them eat that hay. Horses are not like cattle. You can not feed them any moldy hay. They will colic and die. The wife has lost several horse due to this.

Im pretty sure they dont intend to feed it to the horses,,they dont have many horses there ,and a lot of pasture, they only bale it one time and its not real nice hay to begin with

Larry I will bet that is Wesley's hay. He does bale in your area and 95% of it goes to the mushroom barns. They want it with some moisture in it. Rotting stinky works well for the compost they use in for the mushrooms.

Probably for the mushroom hay market which is flooded this year. Many bales been sitting sitting in fields here (SE PA) for over a year now!

Don't know much about them but we have some farms that do the super large square bales....maybe 5000#. They bale them and stack at the end of the field, half a dozen on the ground with 2 more layers on top of that. Packed really tight so it would be really hard for moisture to penetrate would be my guess. I do not know what they do with it however.

The farmer across from my farm cut one of my fields on a regular basis. On occasion he would bale the large ones. I asked him once and he said he sold them to mushroom farms. He was never in a hurry to pick them up.
