3010 transmission fluid

Got ahold a fairly decent 3010 John Deere. Changing all the fluids, do not have manual yet.
Question from what I know the transmission and hydraulic fluid are the same, is that true?
What fluid do you use to replace the old fluid? A whole lot of dirty oil came out, how
much do they hold????? Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks.

I would recommend John Deere hyguard oil. Three 5 gallon buckets should do it and have enough left over in case you need to add more later. Also you will want to change the filter and seal. There is also a metal screen that needs to be cleaned. It looks like a round plug not far from the filter.

Thanks, will do that also. It looks like you add the oil right behind where the dipstick is located by your feet, is that correct. Also read the tractor needs to be running when you check it? There is a larger cap on the side of the seat mount which looks like it is where the fluid is added.

Thanks for you assistance

There is a big cap just above the dipstick. That is where you add the hydraulic fluid. The other picture should show you the round plug to look for. Just a heads up the filter doesn't come with a seal. You have to buy it separate.

I don't check it while running. It will give slightly different readings depending on if your 3 point arms are up or down.

Thanks, I thought that was where you added fluid, just not sure. Any suggestions on where to purchase a manual for a 3010 other then John Deere?

If you got real dirty oil I would go buy the cheapest 303 fluid or universal hyd fluid and put that in it and run it a few hours then drain and refill with oil of your choice along with another filter. The cheap oil will cost less than half of Deere oil and will be fine for flushing your tractor. In extreme cases I have drained overnight and added 5-7 gal of diesel fuel and ran a few minutes and drained again. Make sure to check and clean the screen in the bottom of the trans as well. As far as an operaters manual I would check Ebay. If you plan to keep the tractor long term I would also look for a Deere 3000 series service manual. Tom

eBay for manuals you can get factory manuals cheaper and better quality than the reprints from John Deere and If won?t have that stupid hole in the cover

In the lower picture the round plug with the 1/2? square drive in it down low in front of where the axle housing bolts on is where the hydraulic screen is that is recommended to be pulled and cleaned.
