Hello <Farmall Super A>

Hello Everyone! Stopping in to Say "HI". I bought my first antique tractor, a Farmall Super A, (I grew up in a green family, not a red one) a couple of weeks ago from the original farm that bought it brand new and spent it's life working on. It has a locked engine and I started pulling it apart and found the problem, but not what caused it yet. I have 10 teeth missing off the governor gear and a couple chipped teeth on the cam gear from what I can see through the opening. I need to build a wood block frame to support the rear half of the tractor so I can pull the front axle off and then I will split it. Anyway, doing research on parts and came across this awesome page.

Best,

I recommend you do an 'out of frame' overhaul.Just block/support the rear half, then you can yse your engine hoist to lift/remove the front axle, engine, etc.

That is what I was thinking. I know nothing about this tractor so figured I would pull it all the way down. I need to talk to the local machine shop to see if they will redo the head and dip the block once I get the sleeves out. I had antifreeze and oil mixed in both the radiator and oil pan. I hope it is just a cracked sleeve, but the head gasket looked like crap too.

You can pull the head off and then the oil pan and from under it use a piece of wood and a jack to pop the sleeves out of the engine. I set my shop up so it makes it easy to split a tractor. I have an I-Beam in the over head with 4 chain hoists on it and 3 on trollies so you can hang each part as needed and even then some times I have to use a com-along or 2 to have enough to hold up the parts

What I did on my 100 was use a piece of angle iron bolted it to the side of the transmission, to get the right height I jacked the tractor up till I took the load off the tires and the tires were still on the ground. Front end came off and went right back on no problem other than its awkward to work with.

If it has a hydraulic pump it took it out also...
