Yes, I saw that video a while back. It almost makes me want to own a Bug. I have to believe that with four passengers and the "fifth wheel" trailer, that VW is way over its GVWR.

The Beetle shown is a Super Beetle. It had disk brakes in front and a rating of 60hp. They were pretty peppy and had pretty good brakes. Way better than any of the regular Beetles. Even with all of that, it would not be a very good tow car. The trailer maker certainly would not want to show a Super Beetle attempting to tow that trailer on a summer day in AZ. There would be a puddle of melted aluminum under the car. I drove air cooled VW's for thirty years some of that in AZ. Heat was their worst enemy.

I have seen all sorts of tiny campers for VW bug and even smaller cars.

Like this 16 horsepower Subaru with a 22 cubic inch engine.

Knew a guy one time who had a camper with a Porsche five rear and a V6 Riviera engine? The one that came out in the late 70s ?? He would blow two or three rears a year with that thing. Real sleeper at the trafic light.

Yeah, that was one of Volkswagens bragging points--won't boil over. They NEVER said it wouldn't overheat, though. Adjusting valves at every oil change was another unmentioned 'pain'.

How well could that hitch be attached to the roof. Remember how the luggage rack mounted? It does not look strong.

not very strong regardless how it is fastened ,but i would guarantee it to be stronger than a convertible , LOL .. Yes It Is Very Cool ,,.. and practical maneuvering ,the handling ability with the weight on the roof is a big time game changer ,. but like many of us doubters havre stated ,.. i cant see a couple trusting that rig going from Louisville Ky Yellowstone in the hot summertime ,,. i think they mite be broke down on the side of the road waiting for help and writing poems and songs to pass the time
