Massey 135 pto does not disengage

Hi. Looking to see if pto problem with Massey 135 may be an extensive/expensive fix? Have not needed pto since I bought tractor few years ago. Just ran cultivator and harrows. After taking cover off pto shaft I see it does not disengage and the pto handle to shift does nothing. There is no resistance and I can move the pto shift handle back and forward without clutch. Feels like nothing there at all. Anytime tractor runner my pto is running.

First off, need to know which PTO drive tractor has, two stage clutch which will have a ground drive position on the PTO shift cover, or the late hydraulic independent PTO which does not have ground drive position. If it's the two stage it MAY be the PTO shift lever pin is not in the gear shifting groove inside, could be simple as removing/replacing the cover.

The lever is probably just disengaged from the shift collar.

Loosen the cover to get it back in. You can take the other side off, look across and see what is happening.

Hi. Thank you very much for the reply. I will try and figure out the pto shift cover thing. Would it help if I let you know the tractor is built in 1968, has the long lever, and the lever is more to the front of the tractor on the plate rather than to the back of the plate. Thanks again!

Here are pics as well.

When you move the lever to engage the pto make sure it turns the shaft that goes trough the cover. It has a pin holding the lever to the shaft, sometimes that pin shears.

More than likely you have live pto, push the clutch pedal about half way down you can change gears, push the pedal all the way down you can engage the pto. Some 135's have transmission pto like the old Ford 8N. For example where you push the clutch pedal all the way down if the pto is still spinning (like if you have a mower behind it) the tractor will keep on going. I have yet to see a 135 with transmission pto like the 8N.

By looking at pics could you rule out I have late independent hydraulic pto? Sorry for all the questions! Thank you.
