Cub Cadet 1450 no start.

Picked up a Cub Cadet 1450 for my father last night. Started up ran it around loaded it on trailer. Went to start it today to unload it. Cranked over about a minute (not at one time) just about had it started. Then dead no start , no click, not even a twitch out of volt meter. Battery is good came out of my other Cub Cadet. Guy we bought it from said he had problems with the PTO switch and sometimes you had to "wiggle" to get tractor started. So would the PTO switch being bad also cause the dash to go "dead"? Also tryed jumping the starter best I could get was it to fire maybe three times and die. Thanks, Sod Buster.

As with any engine trouble shoot
#1 pull the spark plug out and make sure you have a good blue/white spark that jumps a 1/4 inch gap
#2 make sure you have a good flow of gas to the carb.

As for a switch causing a problem yes it could if it has a number of safety switch which would not allow it to turn over if the PTO was engaged and something wrong with the PTO switch could well cause a no start problem

NOT sure what you mean by the dash "going dead, and it has an ammeter rather than a voltmeter (unless it's be changed).

Pretty simple wiring.

Check for power at the "B" (Battery) terminal on the ignition switch.

With switch "on", should be power at the "I" (ignition terminal) on the ignition switch & at the (+) terminal on the ignition coil.

Power from "S" (start) terminal on ignition switch flows through ORANGE wire from "start" terminal to PTO clutch switch, though a normally-closed contact, then leaves the clutch switch through orange wire to neutral safety switch, though closed contacts, then on to starter solenoid, still an orange wire.

Its got fuel. And spark. And compression seems weak though. Buts thats just going by sound. Its has to be in the electical system. Acts like a switch is off some where. I HATE WIRING.

I helped a neighbor with a riding mower last summer, had several weird no start problems. Finally found that the connection where battery ground cable was bolted to the frame was loose. Cleaned it, tightened the bolt and all was well. Check your battery cables...both cables...both ends

Sounds about like many things I have bought. Ran when I bought it and loaded it up. Got home and had to pull it off with another tractor !

We bought an old one a few years ago for $50, it was completely dead, guy thought the starter was shot. When we got it home I jumped the
solenoid and started it and drove it in my shop, and the wife got on the internet. In about 3 minutes she came out and said it's a fuse, the
wire to the headlights usually breaks an blows the fuse. So I fixed the headlight wire and put a new fuse in and all was fine. As I remember
the fuse was just in the wiring harness, not mounted anywhere, pretty common on a lawn tractor. Sold it for $250 the next summer, have to
get lucky once in awhile!
