voltage reg

Wondering why the Cub wouldn't charge, voltage regulator full of rust. Odd because this one is typically shedded (or at least under roof) but I suspected something was up when the screws were difficult to get out. I wonder if there is a sealed solid state v-reg out there to replace the old mechanical relay Delco D655? No big deal, these are cheap enough (<$25 on Amazon)

I love my Oliver 550, but not especially pleased with the engineer who decided to mount the VR on the generator with a big hose clamp, directly under the drip line of the side of the hood. Lucky to get 3 years out of one.

I had the same problem; so I took a "Smart Balance" artificial butter container and put it right over the regulator(fits perfectly).
With this in place the rain, etc. stays out.

Yes, there are electronic replacements.

Someone posted the source for one on here not long ago.

Might try a search, maybe he'll see this and repost.

The VR on my Loboy looks pretty similar. It's not working. I'm going to just put another on when I get a chance. If we get some nice weather, I may just run up and get one and see if I can get her running. Mine is indoors all the time because it is repainted. I think the VR went south when it was wrecked many years ago by a former owner. It sat out for a bit after the accident.

Thanks, but those are spendy as you point out. Probably just as cost effective to keep a new spare on hand and change out as needed. Thanks.

Sounds like a barnyard engineer installed your VR. A true engineer would not use a hose clamp. My 550, by the way, has the VR mounted on the side of the engine block above the generator.

(quoted from post at 17:01:43 12/12/17) Thanks! Do you have a wiring diagram for installing one?
ince it is labeled "rectifier"/Regulator, I say that it is more likely than not to not be a fit for your tractor. A wiring diagram might answer that.

Hi yea the rectifier description threw me off at first but it is just a solid state voltage regulator designed for Delco generators as I posted I have one on a B&S with a starter generator and it works as it should . Well they won't let me or I,m not doing it right but I can't get the wiring PDF to upload
The regulator has 3 wires Red Orange Green the Red wire connects to Battery Positive Orange wire to generator Armature Green wire to generator Field The case is ground and must be connected to the tractor to ground it.
