When I was in the Air Force I was stationed at Loring AFB between Caribou and Limestome,Maine. Stayed 3 1/2 years and was lucky enough to see 4 winters there. When I got out and returned to Natchez, MS I figured “NO MORE SNOW SHOVELING”!
Well I was wrong last Friday we Got 4” of snow! Had to shovel the front steps and walk and the deck so my wife could walk out. Well I hope that it will be another 43 years before it happens again and I will be long in my final resting place! The saying all the AF retirees had there would say I am gonna tie a snow shovel on my vehicle and head south. When people start asking what is that tied to your vehicle, then I will start looking for a place live!

I spent four years at Chanute AFB. I much prefer shoveling a little snow here in sw Wi to the Illinois ice storms. Lived in Gulfport MS for seven years and I will take the tornadoes over the hurricanes. Far less chance of getting hit. Never had my water pipes frozen up here in WI (we are prepared for the freezing temps). In MS I fixed a lot of frozen pipes for others. When I remodeled the house I fixed it so I could completely drain the system if it was going to get down to freezing temps. It helps that I was born in northern Wisconsin to begin with. Where men are men and the women are even stronger.

I spent 13 years at Grand Forks Air Force Base, 8 as an NCO and 5 as a Civilian. I was there when the Flood of 97 hit, after a heck of a blizzard three weeks before that. Seen temps as low as -80 (actual) with -120 wind chill. Hope I never see anything like that again. Now living near Cheyenne, Wyoming. Still see snow, but I don't miss the below zero temps. Just have to deal with the frickin' wind here in the wintertime.
